Fantastic getaway not far from the valley! We enjoyed hiking, paddle boarding, swimming in the lake, and fishing. The hike is a short 3 mile out-and-back, easy for kids and well maintained. Bathrooms and showers were all very clean. We had a harmless skunk family that would wander through our campsite every evening at dusk. Very peaceful campground and we can’t wait to come back!

Cool trail! Road is dirt and has deep ruts. We went for hike during monsoon season. Drove there in an Impala and were able to get in and out fine. But if it has rained we would have most likely gotten stuck.

Great hike It's very well marked and offers a fair amount of shade. Not a lot of people. The dogs had a great time. Bring lots of water. We went through much more than usual

great place.

We took a shorter route which was good today. This was a well marked and easy trail to hike. We did have GPS which is always nice to have. Only used the GPS when we were taking the short cut. As it gets warmer, getting an earlier start would be ideal. Will be back later for the full hike. Some of the hiking trails were beautiful with Buena vista views.

Nice trail! Close to downtown pinetop. Very well marked. Went counterclockwise about 3 miles and then turned around, beautiful views and only saw 1 other person the whole hike. Gradual up and down, nothing to steep. Great way to spend a few hours in the trees!

Good quick hike but poorly marked at times. I kept my GPS on to make it for the full loop. Good views once you get past the trees. But kinda eerie at times alone Will do it again with a friend ☀️

As long as it hasn’t rained in a few days this is a great trail. One of my favorites.

we hiked along the 'creek/reservoir' east from the non hookup spots. found an osprey nest just before u have to turn around for private property. gorgeous cliffs that direction. Rocky, but short. nice for kids.

No water but beautiful views and a great training trail.

This is a great training trail. Lots of moderate climbing, a couple of technical sections and a bit of zippy descending.

Not bad...Trail is not well marked and with many intersecting mountain bike trails and roads. Good cell service will allow you to check your position using GPS. Pay attention or you may find yourself on a longer hike than you had planned for!

We went in February so it was a bit cold but that was expected. This was an amazing trail with bits of snow patches and a very well marked trail system. We used our GPS quite a bit to make sure we stayed on the trail and that helped. This would be an amazing trail to do in the spring, summer or fall. We will be back.

Well maintained trail and pretty easy. Great trail to bring younger grandkids and also dogs. Very beautiful and much fun along the way if you wanted to stop and throw rocks or just visualize the beauty.

Nice - peaceful, serene walk around the lake. Lots of water birds including a beautiful heron

I completed the hike with my two dogs and they had a blast. The scenery was bueatyful, and the hike was challenging enough to be a good workout. Can be muddy in parts of the trail.

Love this trail. We even saw a small herd of horses. The mares were interested in our horses but the stallion quickly diverted them.

Nice views and hike. Easy to miss turns & get off trail so be attentive. Will do again.

The first time I tried this trail I was alone and I definitely don't think it's the trail to do alone. it's pretty isolated. This next time I took my mom and we both felt it was pretty eerie. I guess because it is so isolated in back woods and there were bones hanging from trees. the trail markings aren't that great. We found a road halfway in and took that back to the car. overall, wasn't bad.

Saw a herd of elk just off the trail

This was a great trail! It was well marked and maintained, and the trail itself is interesting to follow, with a wide variety of nature and wildlife (including cows). However, be aware that the loop itself is closer to being 13 miles long than it is to being 9 miles.

Beautiful trail full of wildlife, aspen groves and thick dense canopy. We took our Cub Scout den and hiked 6 miles of the loop. It was a great time and was not very difficult.

Enjoyed the west side of the trail and the views. The east portion of the loop offered no variety of scenery and limited shade due to the thinning project.

It used to be a beautiful trail however it looks like the forest service has let loggers in there and bare and they literally have just cleaned it out very disappointing

This is definitely a four season trail. Beautiful vista views with a different feel depending on the season. In the winter great for snowshoe hiking. In the spring about a quarter mile in from the trailhead water holds and mountain tree frogs can be heard singing. On occasion wild mustangs can be seen grazing in small bands. In particular two stallions Sky and Midnight can be seen along the trail. I was told by local residents that they have been along this trail since 2010.

Lots of geo caches if you enjoy that activity and if you have mountain bikes .... this is definitely your trail!

This trail was very well marked. I agree it is definitely moderate. Not much wildlife except for a few horn toads. We took the short loop, which took us about 3 1/2 hours. Definitely worth it.

Trail markers exist, but who knows what trail you are on!? Ridiculously confusing making GPS and backtracking mandatory! Hike itself is awesome, but GPS is mandatory.

Tough bike ride, kicked my butt, but I'm out of shape. I went counterclockwise. The section from the trailhead to the right hand turn is totally rocky, couldn't bike it. After the right turn to go counterclockwise, it is mostly smooth sailing, really nice fast pine needle covered track. But, once you make the u-turn the trail skirts the whole way along the bluff for great views. Unfortunately pretty much that whole section along the bluff was way too difficult for me to bike because it is so rocky. At least three spots, in which the bike would not even fit, so had to carry. Anyway, great ride, I think it is more like 8+ miles.

Good trail to start building up endurance for harder hikes. It is one that anyone can complete without too much difficulty if you are in basic good health. There are some climbs, but nothing drastic or hard. Nice views, not heavily trafficked, you will sometimes run into deer, elk, and more than once I have ran into groups of wild horses.
