Indian Ruins and Rock Art A good example of early Indian Life. Easy trail goes from the parking area to the ruins. The trail along the rock bluff provides an excellent view of the cliff dwellings.Show more

Please note that this is not an officially marked/maintained trail. To get to the main ruins just walk along the main creek heading east the whole way and eventually you'll run into the end of the canyon/beginning of the creek where the water used to flow down. The Main ruins will be clearly visible on the south end. To get to the upper ruins you must scale up either the north or south end of the canyon you begin the hike in. It can be a bit challenging for those not used to bushwacking or heights but is easily doable. Trailhead coordinates are 34.910283, -111.810515 Upper ruins coordinates are 34.907013,-111.803433 Main Ruins Coordinates are 34.907308,-111.802656 PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL OF THE RUINS. They are not in the best shape, especially the upper ones. With limited traffic it is very important to keep these well preserved and not vandalized. Please see the park website for more information: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/coconino/recarea/?recid=55368 Palatki Heritage Site is located in Red Rock Country and is protected by the U.S. Forest Service. This site offers GUIDED TOURS of cliff dwellings left behind by the Sinagua Culture as well as magnificent petroglyphs and pictographs. Visitors will be accompanied on site by trained volunteer tour guides. Visitors are strongly encouraged to call ahead to make reservations. Due to site limitations, entrance can not guaranteed without a reservation.The number for reservations is: 928-282-3854. Palatki Heritage Site hours are as follows: 9:30AM-3:00PM, every day of the week. Thanksgiving and Christmas Day are the only regularly scheduled closing days. Admission is by: Red Rock Pass, National Park Pass, or Golden Age Pass. Since the roads to Palatki are unpaved, extreme weather might dictate closing of the site. Visitors would be wise to be aware of the weather conditions and if doubtful, to call ahead and confirm. Show more
