This is an easy 1.6 mile trail one way. There is parking on both the north and south end of the trail....I started on the north end. I was disappointed in this trail for a couple of reasons. First of all, I did not see any burrows (but did smell them). Secondly, I was expecting that the trail would have good views of the Lake Pleasant, but that was not the case. The shoreline was so receded due to low water levels, that the shoreline was about half a mile away and barely visible. The views were boring. In fact, so boring, that I decided to make a loop on the way back by hiking along the roadways back to my car, making the hike about 4.5 miles in total.

I found this route a bit boring for hiking. OK for MB although I would still rate it easy and not moderate.
After about .65 miles, you have to walk a little bit on the road.
I saw tons of butterflies, small frogs and lizards.

Did this hike February 15, 2018. I took about 2.5 hours to do the loop, following the difficult path option. I only seen two woman leaving near the start and one man about the 3/4 mark on the way down. The weather was clear and 74 degrees and a 5 mph wind. There are some monsters for homes that are huge you see from the traverse.

I didn’t see these homes on the way in because the difficult option bypasses the traverse.

Nice hike and gives you a workout. I went through 2 quarts of water and could of used a third.

Love the Vistancia Discovery Trail, beautiful mature desert landscaping, wildlife, lots of picnic areas and an exercise area.

Did this trail this morning. There was not a lot of traffic when I went. There was 10 people that I came across at 5 different occasions. Once you park, the trailhead is .1 or .2 miles away. The trailhead states that the trail is 4.2 miles long, however, I don’t think that adds the distance of the “extreme” trail. My distance at the end was 5.9 miles and it took me 2.5 hours. I’m personally out of shape and found some parts of the trail strenuous. However, the trail was well marked and I took the more difficult trails. This trail is surrounded by the city, but offers amazing views.

This trail is listed as a 4 mile loop. Both All Trails and Map My Tracks logged me at 5.1 miles. You might want to change your mileage quote. It’s a good hike and tests you a bit.

I've run it 5 or 6 times. Somehow the first mile is the hardest, but the views are great. Beware on the way back, when you get to the saddle (above the switchback) where there's a T, there's what looks like a trail going off to the left. I took that the first time, and it deposits you in a non-trail. The two correct ways back both start off in almost the same direction. The left-hand trail back (heading north) is almost scrambling, I won't say I was running that part...

Saw 3 wild burros about a quarter mile from the start! Spot #9 on the map is where we started and it was $7 per vehicle to get into the park. Lots of cactus, but nice weather.

Actually burros visited.

Loved it! Went on a Saturday morning and there were more people at the trailhead park (west wing park) than the trail itself. Only issue was stopping every once in a while to figure out which path was the right path (need better trail markers). It’s a little narrow in certain sections around the southern peak with steep drop offs (careful with kids less than 8ish).

This is my go to trail. It's close to my house and can give you a varied workout with distances up to 6 miles.

I hiked this trail in hopes of finding burros, I arrived at the trailhead in the afternoon and I did not find any burros. The trail itself is relatively easy with a light elevation gain. I started at the very top of the trail around Peninsula Rd and then made my way down to other end of the trail. It was great getting to look at Lake Pleasant and have a quiet walk around the lake. If your looking for burros, I would suggest either getting there in the evening or in the early morning.

Nice out and back with a small loop- bit of climbs in places but very moderate overall.

What a nice trail! My husband and I (early 60's) are new to the area living in Glendale. Thunderbird always busy on the weekends so looked for another trail close by. Arrived around 9 and began a lovely hike. It is a good workout with great views.

This trail is a little gem in the Northwest Valley. We took about 4 hours to complete it and rested at the lake for a while before heading back. We only saw a few people along the way. It also connects with the Maricopa County Trail system.

My family and I enjoy this hike. I've completed it several times with them and by myself. It is also pet-friendly. I would also recommend this for trail running. There are crowds on the weekend, but the views of Peoria are nice. Bathrooms are at the trailhead if you start from Westwing Park.

Where is the trailhead?

Enjoyed the hike very much! It was fairly easy, even for non-experienced hikers. A bit rocky here and there but the views were worth it!

Hiked the full trail out/back this morning (Saturday) with a friend and our dogs. I am not an “experienced hiker” (I only hike once a week) but I thought this trail was easy... We started at about 9:00am (around 60*) and got back to the car at 2:30pm (around 75*). We took frequent rest/water breaks and played in the lake for a while before making our way back. The trail was lightly trafficked - we only saw 2-3 couples/families biking and no other hikers. The trail is well maintained but there is a bunch of broken glass at the trailhead. Also a surprising amount of horse/dog feces. There is little to no shade so wear sunscreen!

Started at 2:45pm and made it back to my car at 7:00pm. Rested before making the 'out' trek and sat to watch the sunset before finishing the last mile. Saw multiple mountain bikers and I was the only hiker. The rolling hills as mentioned below kept it interesting. Saw 2 coyotes, burros, cottontails and a hawk. There is a tiny stream at the beginning that had minnows as well.

Was a really fun hike wasn’t too bad took about two hours but we kept on stopping and looking at the view kids loved it!!!

After 1st km km, a great sidewinder type of trail, fairly rugged, that circles three or four peaks and walks you along a few ridges. Nice views 360.

Great view! I loved it! It has plenty of places that level out so it’s not bad at all. The view was a huge pay-off! Wow!

Easy going, well groomed path, several places to exit the trail if needed, nice parks along the way, not too busy, completely enjoyable!!

Easily one of my go to trails in the valley. Not too congested at all, reasonable for dogs also. Good elevation changes and routes to choose from, with 3 total peaks to get to and options around them should you want. Very nice views of the NW valley. Recommended by far.

This is nicely paved with some gentle rolling elevation change throughout. there are also a number of parks and playgrounds that this meanders through. It is marked private property as many people have mentioned, but if you have access it's a wonderful trail!

Beautiful views but it’s easy to get off trail without realizing it.
Great moderate hike!
