Great trail, hike up the hill to the top, down the hill on the way back to the trailhead. Since the trail starts in the Double Springs Campground, the easiest place to park is at the entrance of the campground there is a sign and a few spots for trailhead parking. It is only a short walk to the trailhead from there. At the top, it gets very windy. Watch your kids, as there is severe cliffs and drop offs at the top.Show more

There is no hiking into the crater. State park is $18 for adults and offers tours, but none descend into the crater. There is an interactive museum, astronaut wall of fame, and gift shop. This is a good place to take the kids and get some cool pictures, but you're not allowed to hike around the crater. The worlds best preserved meteorite impact site just minutes from Interstate 40 in Northern Arizona near Winslow. Meteor Crater is the breath-taking result of a collision between a piece of an asteroid traveling at 26,000 miles per hour and planet Earth approximately 50,000 years ago. Today, Meteor Crater is nearly one mile across, 2.4 miles in circumference and more than 550 feet deep. It is an international tourist venue with outdoor observation trails, air conditioned indoor viewing, wide screen movie theater, interactive discovery center, unique gift and rock shop, and Astronaut Memorial Park at the modern Visitor Center located on the crater rim.Show more
