Fun trail occasionally hard to find. Some great views of red Mountain and the salt River. There are many other trails and washes that intersect. This makes it easy to take a quick short cut back to the beginning. We cut about 2 miles off the main trail by doing this. We didn’t want to do the whole 7 miles. We did about five.

Park for free by the bridge just before Granite Reef recreation site or roadside just after. Granite Reef requires a paid pass.

This is a great MTB trail. I was hiking and went off trail most of the time. I did a Little Rock hounding and found some nice quartz.

It’s straight up desert crossing, not featured, maintained hiking trails. I like that.

Badly badly marked, maybe not at all, more just weaving little sandy trails. Half the time we dead-ended in the river or bushes. Very little shade on the trails that are accessible. Busy spot for the river, bbqs and little rc cars. The river was gorgeous and we saw a small herd of horses and a big bull across the water! Pretty wild flowers and trees too.

Nice little hike up to the saddle. Enough exercise for me on a hot June morning.

couldn't find where to park. help =)

Interesting trail that was much more of an adventure than I expected!
Warning: This trail is more remote than most other trails in the area. It is a combination of regular trails, a few dirt roads and several washes.
Pay close attention to your map! There are a few well placed cairns, but it is not obvious which way to go on several occasions and it is quite easy to get off track.
I am in decent shape and have done a fair amount of hiking, but I went off trail twice, had my phone down to 10% battery, ran out of water, and ended up quite dehydrated on a “cool” June morning with only 90F.
Be smarter than me! Bring at least 2 liters of water if you go when it is hot, and make sure you have enough battery power if that is your only way to navigate.
I saw a dead horse in a wash and not a single person during the hike...and was happy when I made it back to my car. Be safe in the heat.

If you like rock scrambling, continue on past the wind cave! Very fun but definitely some climbing

Fantastic loops! Make your own distance by adding loops or subtracting...... good elevation not too much, good for trail running and bikes! This is a great easy go to trail system!

Hiked to the cave on April 30 2018 beautiful morning nice trail

The wind cave itself was an interesting feature but if you want to make the most of this hike then go past the cave and up to the summit. It does not take much longer and the views were amazing!! I don’t know why other people don’t do this.

There is nothing moderate about this hike. Lots of people all the time. It seems people stay here overnight. If you want to enjoy this hike, go there at night in the Summer. Otherwise early morning. If you do not stop to rest or drink water this is a great workout.

A bit too flat, very little shade. Nice blossoms beginning to show.

Easy up and back. Sadly, not worth the $7 entry fee. We were super excited about this hike, but were slightly disappointed once we reached the “cave”. Left much to be desired ...

Great hike. Was a little unclear where the trail was in places/where the trail actually ended...? But besides that was great trail with awesome views! Would recommend for people of all skill levels (the end is a bit tough for all levels but could just stop before the end).

A flat trail, great for a lazy stroll. luckily the sun was behind clouds. no shade here.

Outstanding trail

this was a bad hike. there is horse poop everywhere. although we saw some horses it was smelly and there were a lot of flies.

Great trail for a nice quick hike. It does get a little tricky once you go passed the maintained trails though so proceed with caution.

Nice trail, mostly flat but enough elevation to catch a few decent peeks at the Salt River and the Red Mountain.

Was such a great hike!! We got hiking a bit late (close to 9am) so it got pretty hot, but was a very enjoyable hike. There was even a rattlesnake up at the top and we got to witness a squirrel-rattlesnake stand-off.. pretty cool! the squirrel won XD All around a really great hike!

The trail is a nice walk at sunset, not very challenging and perfect for kids to come along. There is an awesome firepit at the trailhead with a great view...

I didn’t realize most of this hike/trail was a wash but it’s a good little hike for little dogs. Lots of mountain bikers and tons of Cholla to watch for!

Nice trail but a bit too flat and generic to get 4 stars from me.

More of a walk than a “hike”. I gave it 4 stars because it seems great for small kids (if you keep all the thorny things in mind), and because I liked the layout. The rocks completely lining the trail gave it a different feel than most trails in the area.

Started late today around 10am with temperatures in the 90ies. Went past the Wind Cave and up to the South Peak.
Used a liter of water and ran out on the way down. Took me 1.5 hours for the round trip with only a short break at the top. I'd recommend going earlier or when it's cooler, but still a nice hike!

Easy trail. Wide with good gravel. Nice views. Children would enjoy. It’s a loop with good signs.

Really challenging trail. Start early in the morning. I am 69 years old with pacemaker. Took me 1 1/2 hours up. As I got higher up, I noticed, in quite a number of spots, that the trail is not marked and there are little feeders. So, I had to guess which ones were the trail. The scenery of the valley is incredible! Going down was much easier because I could see the trail beneath me. Several areas there are rocks to climb over. Take plenty of water and a fruit or snack. I loved it and plan to go again.

Not well marked. Sometimes we did not even know where the trail was. Very limited water views. Disappointing.

Good trail, not too long. So many cactuses, I haven’t made it through without the pups getting one stuck in their paw, but otherwise good. Also the price went up to $7 to enter the park.
