For being in town it was great. Went in early June morning and it was only 95 out. Although not a long hike you are in the desert and it can be very hot. The views were great and lots of saguaros to see. Also saw a rabbit.

Love to walk here daily when visiting. Enjoyable at sunset in summer.

Unless you already live in Fountain Hills don’t go to the effort of driving out to this hike. Was lame

While a simple walk, we went at sunset just prior to the fountain spraying. The scenery was beautiful and the mountains made for a majestic backdrop. My son rode his scooter the whole way around the paved path. Just a really fun place to visit.

What a cute little hike before the day gets hot! It’s kind of strange hiking through the middle of a neighborhood but the view at the highest point is pretty amazing. I actually ended up doing the trail backwards (ooops) but the trail was wide enough to accommodate. The area is well maintained and easily marked.

Great hike!! Cactuses and other plants just starting to bloom! Mostly easy with a few spots that would be considered moderate. Not very many people... beautiful views! Take lots of water as there is no shade.

Nice trail once you get away from the highway. Definitely take the trail to the left unless you want a pretty hard workout.

This is my go to work out loop! I start to the right. Great views. If you have extra time continue on the trail pass the loop sign and the views just get better.

This park is great but be sure to plan your visit around the hour because that is when the 300 foot fountain. The fountain pumps out 7,000 US Gallons per second out of a 18 inch nozzle. The fountain is truly amazing and I recommend it for all ages. Also the fountain runs from 9am to 9pm so it will go off even at night because they have lights on the fountain.

I loved this hike gorgeous views and easy enough to be able to enjoy the scenery

Easy trail with lots of road noise. It would be good for bike or walking your dog as it isn’t heavily trafficked.

I thought this was a great hike! If you're doing the loop I would start with the trailhead on the right if you're looking for more of a work out, as the trailhead on the left is gentler. It's also really nice to come down after you've worked your buns off to gain the elevation! Awesome views. We continued the trail beyond where the loop turns back for a little while and we're really happy we did. Highly recommend!

Where is the mine itself? Did not see any sign, however it is very nice trail with some real nice views.

very beautiful scenery... with a bit of challenge

Good trail for mountain bikes but not so great for hiking. Always within earshot and eyesight of a busy road. I prefer peace and quiet

It was a nice walk to go on with my kiddos. The fountain goes off every hour on the hour from 9am-9pm - we got there at 3:05 when it was just finishing up. However we took a nice slow walk around, looking at the birds/ducks and enjoying the weather. Would have been a great place to bring UNO and a picnic basket. They had a cool playground area with a music section with tons of different actual percussion instruments for the kids to play with. Very cool. Will be back.

I hike this trail quite often seeing as I live in walking distance to the trailhead. Usually not crowded although sometimes on weekends there are hiking clubs that go. The mine is actually through the wash at the bottom. Great trail for everyone because you can either turn around at Dixie mine or keeping going to Thompson peak or prospector. Great hike for dogs too.

Great hike if you want to take a brief detour from the park’s paved trail. Recommend entering the trail near the parking lot if you want to be challenged with some uphill cardio.

It's strange that this trail description doesn't encompass the premier feature in the area which is the Cline Cabin just on the other side of the ridge beyond where this trail description ends. That "side" trip adds another 2 miles and well worth the trip.

This is a fun trail for hiking but it should be noted that the deteriorating granite breaks down into little ball-bearing like gravel that makes the trail a little slippery, even for foot traffic. I don't really understand why several people said they got lost. The trail, especially as described, is pretty much impossible to get lost as the path is well-defined.

I rated this trail for horseback riding. The Ballantine trailhead designates the trail as horse-friendly but that isn't so. The narrowly rutted granite trail is really hard for horses to navigate. I completed it on my horse, going all the way to the cabin, but not without my horse suffering several nicks and cuts.

Gave it one star because we couldn’t hike on it. Arrived on News Years day and there was a security guard waiting and turning away all hikers. It was closed and he said it is. Closed 3 days a year and we happen to hit one of the days. I mean who pays a man to stand on New Year’s Day to turn hikers away. Will have to try again soon.

it’s the fountain of fountains

Great walk!

Fairly mellow hike and good for most ages. Can be beautiful during wildflower season but that can also bring a lot of bees. Usually not super crowded.

I haven’t hiked in 8months. So I wanted to get back into hiking shape again. I choose this trail and I thought it would be easy. I hiked from the trail head to boulder flats. Views were great and the amount of quiet time was excellent while hiking mostly up hill. I had a great time out there. I just wish I was in better shape to go further.

hiked over from the Scottsdale side via bell pass and prospector. Been wanting to check out the mine for a while. Hiked back to Dixie mine trailhead to complete the route. Enjoyed the route besides the mine great views of Four Peaks weavers needle Thompson peak and east end.

Closer to moderate than easy. Fairly scenic and not many people using it. I also missed the trail back to the mine but it was the best part of the hike for me, if you continue going up the trail past the mine to the top of the mountain you can see the fountain (during the first 15 minutes of every hour), a little bit of the Verde river and a lot better view of the mountains.

Nice Trail, we were lucky to see about 6 Mule Deer about 100 yards away from us:)

Very pretty and easy hike.
