Pretty easy. Definitely a mile hike before the trail. Had to go thru construction up a dirt road. Not too bad. Great warm up for the trail!

The first half of the trail was ok, but the last half made it really worth it coming. We hiked through amazingly beautiful valley and especially enjoyed golden hour and sunset painting mountains around us. Highly Redding coming for sunset.

We got there on a Wednesday at 6:35PM, the parking was nearly empty. Could not pay the parking fee, the credit card device was not working (as shown on screen). The hike was nice, could have been 5, but 4 because: -Beginning is messy route, and there is only a very short moment where you can enjoy being by the river, and see it. -Flies!!! Following you, small, big and some mosquitoes. It drove me nuts. Otherwise it’s a nice hike, among grass and trees, water bring a different type of nature which makes this hike interesting. We could hear but did not see wild horses.

Closed at night- we went then and it was so cool to see the fountain up there at night, but trail goes through peoples backyards and we got snapped at.

Nice trail. The best part is the peek and the rest is just ok.

I personally was not a fan of this track, due to the high frequency of loose rock, with fairly steep gradient. I was glad to have brought along my walking sticks for stability. I did not do the full loop, due to my half century knees telling me to turn back. In the wash at the bottom, there were several homeless taking up residence. Maybe you will like this for the views, but I’ll stick with other trails. Happy hiking, all!

Trail is not totally represented on AllTrails map. The 0.3 mile out/back connects to the Coon Bluff Loop. There are multiple trail options that often turn into rocky narrow trails but eventually back to the original. Poor signage. Very buggy today even at higher elevation.

Everyone else is right. I thought that I trusted my senses and knew better than the rest of the commenters (ya right) ... it’s definitely a confusing & unmarked trail with lots of misleading offshoots. We never saw water :( and turned around when the sun got low, so we’ll just have to try again

We drove to see the fountain, walked around the grounds which are well kept and enjoyed watching some disc golf in action. This path is paved and great for running, walking, or even roller blading. There is a full disc golf course around the water as well as picnic areas, playgrounds, and a nice selection of statues and artwork. We were there an hour and a half and unfortunately didn’t see the fountain. It came up for a few seconds at 6:15 but immediately shut off when there was a small gust of wind. Bummed!

this trail is hard!!! for the first several miles on dixie, it’s easy but once you branch off onto the actual thompson peak trail, it gets steep. there’s tons of gnats! once you’re at the top with the radio towers, it’s amazing how far you hiked. beautiful views! probably took about 3 hours to get to the top

Running

Scenic running trail in a nicely kept neighborhood. Half is flat pavement around a beautiful fountain, the other half is dirt/gravel/ small rocks with various inclines in the backyards of local neighborhood. Great scenic views at the top of those off roading parts. Recommended for an easy run or leisurely stroll

When you first start this hike and you are trying to figure out which mountain you are trying to summit, just look for the one with all the radio towers on top. The top is small and with all that equipment up there it’s not as peaceful. The gnats are AWFUL right now. From the minute you get onto Thompson trail from Dixie you have them all over you. That made us more motivated to keep moving and not stop even on the steep parts haha. Definitely a good workout and some gorgeous views!

Not bad at all!! I started at the westernmost part of the trail and went up what Trailforks says is the end. Had to do it quick because it was before work one day, but I pulled back about 3/4 in because I didn’t know what lies ahead was mostly downhill. That portion of the downhill I did hit though... whew! Could really rack up some speed, some nice rocks and a few rollers to hit & get off the ground a little. Wish I would’ve gone the whole way! Would’ve been an easy climb out. Next time!

This trail brings you up a little bit over the city for some beautiful views. I went at sunset and it was lovely. There are benches near the top to sit at and watch the fountain/sunset. Some of the trail is pretty narrow. Not sure if there are snakes but I would wear closed toed shoes.

Nice paved path. Fountain goes off every hour on the hour for 15 minutes. People running, families walking, strollers, etc so can feel crowded. The water also gives off a very strong smell because it is reclaimed water.
