Fairly easy trail, with beautiful views.

This hike is open now! I started at a quarter to 6 this morning and didn’t see a soul. I went up Abineau and down Bear Jaw. Since the trail just reopened they haven’t had time to clear up a few fallen trees. They are passable but take caution as you do. I’m glad I went the route I did but the views would’ve been better had I done it the reverse. I saw a ton of deer and even a 6 Point buck (I think that’s how you say it). Very neat! The drive in is fine on the dirt road (I have a low clearance vehicle) but gets dicey when you see the turn off to go onto 9123J. My gps wanted me to continue on 418 but there is a sign that clearly directs you to turn onto 9123J. There are some spots to park immediately on 9123J if you don’t feel like driving on the slightly hairier (big rocks and some puddles but nothing my car couldn’t clear) road but it’ll add about 1.5 miles (round trip). I loved the views here and was glad I went early as the monsoon clouds started rolling in as I was finishing around 9.

Absolutely no shade, too sunny for a real run!

Nice recovery hike!

Nice loop, we did it in just about 2 hours. A little bit of a climb but not much. This trail is better for biking than hiking. At some points the trail is only wide enough for one person, and we had to get off the trail about 10 times for bikers.

The forest was closed on 6/30/2018.

This trail is closed as of 6/28/18 due to fire risks

I took the Weatherford Trail up to Humphyrey's Trail and Peak. It was about an 11 hour hike with roughly 26 miles traveled and roughly 4k feet in elevation. My FitBit logged in 66K steps that day.

The elevation on Weatherford Trail is slow and steady. I also saw a small black bear with her younger cub, but they were minding their own business.

If you add Humphrey's Peak to this trail and hike then you are in for quite a marathon. My feet paid a steep price as I had blisters covering them the next day. Invest in a good pair of hiking boots and use moleskin to reduce moisture and friction in your shoes.

It is quite beautiful out there, and extremely remote. I only saw one other hiker on the Weatherford Trail until I hit Humphrey's Trail, then I ran into people everywhere.

nice long walk...good for all ages

The trail was closed

Beautiful setting and the trails were well maintained. Plenty of filtered shade on a warm day!

Very easy and smooth in most parts for mountain biking, With a few rock garden challenges along the way. A nice addition if you want a longer ride with less traffic, off of Campbell Mesa Loop.

Great hike. Friendly people on trail. Spotted a 5 + ft bull snake on trail.

I prefer more challenging hikes, but settled for this because apparently the entire Coconino forest is closed. It was scenic and easy and aided in getting a little exercise for the day. Great for a family with children or someone looking for a nice trail run.

Too easy and no wow factor. No one in the family was impressed with this one.

Nice hike under 2 hours

Nice trail through pine groves. Mostly level with just enough ups and downs to feel like a hike. Some sections are difficult to figure out without the map and areas are pretty rocky. Lot of cleared areas.

Beautiful area but hard to stay on the intended trail. After you descend down, you cross over the pipeline intersection and head towards the mountain. There are a lot of small off trails so I’m not certain I actually stayed on the intended trail or not. But.. it was beautiful and great views of Flagstaff. I’ll try it again soon!

The Purina plant and water treatment plant at the beginning are a little off-putting, as others mentioned. However, once you get in about ¼ of a mile this is a very pleasant and easy trail. My husband and I used this as a “recovery” hike between visiting Joshua Tree and the Grand Canyon, as we stayed in Flagstaff. We appreciated the shade on much of the trail and it is well kept. However, it is very sandy in parts, so I wouldn’t recommend Chacos or other open-toed shoes.

Great views and great way to break away from technology!

Still snow at the top of Abineau. Hard to connect to the rest of the trail.

Best single track mountain biking in Flagstaff! Smooth, not too gnarly. Broken shade the nearly the entire way. It’s down and back but there are more trails past the upper parking lot so just keep on going if you feel like more climbing. Much more than 1000’ of elevation up there.

Great for my hardtail 29er but you have to dismount in a few places, especially as you get towards the top past the gate.

Watch out for hikers and bikers on the downhill. Can be crowded.

Great for trail running!
