We really enjoyed this trail. The huge amount of large saguaros was breathtaking. No road noise. Trails very well marked. We went on a cool day (64 degree high) and there was a breeze, so that made this almost easy. We also loved the amount of benches to stop and take it all in, take a water break, have a snack. The only reason this isn't rated as a 5 is the large amount of loose rocks on both the ups and the downs. Wear good hiking boots, and bring your sticks!

Great views, beautiful scenery and just enough technical wheeling to keep me interested but not stress me out too much! Went to both the cabin and the mine shaft at WP4. As others have commented, some parts between WP3 and WP4 can get a little interesting but with the right vehicle and proper lines they can be done.

The trail continues beyond WP4 but, sadly, at a certain point the trail is completely washed out on the side of the hill. So much so that it is not passable in a vehicle. Regardless, a good place to check out and stretch your legs a bit!

Great trail, good mix of up and downhill. Trail is well marked and maintained.

Quiet hike on a Thursday afternoon in November. I honestly feel as though I am the only person on the planet right now...ahhhhhh...

Especially beautiful when water is present in Cave Creek. A great variety of shady and sunny trails and scenery.

Great trail. Easy side of moderate, lots of ups and downs. We went in the early morning, and there's a good deal of shade to rest and take it all in. We went clockwise. Although there is a $7 fee to get into the park, if you go to the visitor center, you can get a 3-pass or a 5-pass that takes the cost down to $5 per visit. We will be doing this trail again. This is our favorite trail so far in the area, but I would rate it to be a very easy side of "moderate" compared to some other moderate hikes we have done across the country.

I started at the switchback trailhead. Took me 2hrs 15 mins for the full loop. Beautiful country. Moderate difficulty. Would definitely recommend!

Beautiful hike with awesome views, I would consider this hike closer to easy in intensity. It was also heavily trafficked at times with many being novice hikers.

Nice trail for walking, not a lot of loose rocks. Enough climbs to get the heart going.

Really good hike and I would say it is moderate. You get the up hill part done first, so that's nice. There are really great views for being in Phoenix. I would definitely go again.

Went after the storm, the creek was running and the hiking was a completely different experience. Highly recommend before the creek dries up

one of my favorites. it is a Maricopa county maintained trail, and there is a small fee to enter.
like any desert trail, be wear of snakes, bring water, and know your limitations.
the views are fantastic, and you might get to see some wild life.
be safe, and enjoy.

Great trail to hike with some nice views.

My mom (58) and I (39) do this hike on a regular basis because it is a great mixture of challenge and amazing views. Be sure to have some cash ready when getting to the park as there is a entrance fee. Pick up the park map and decide which of the trails you are up for. Right now there is no water in the creek but we have seen it flow a couple of times in the beginning of the year. Make sure to have enough water as there are no stations anywhere on the trail but they do have multiple benches where you can sit down and rest if needed. The trail is not heavily trafficked and you can hear and see wildlife all around you. Watch for rattlesnakes! I highly recommend good hiking shoes as the terrain is very rocky and slippery at times. This is a great hike for anyone that is in good physical shape.

I decided to go clockwise starting at the Slate trailhead, then heading north on the Jasper Trail to the Go John Trail and finishing up on the Quartz and Slate trails. Started at mid-morning when it already was hot. There is no shade so bring plenty of water. The trails are well maintained and clearly marked. It is impossible to inadvertently go off-trail. Nice scenery along the way, except for the Slate Trail which is kind of boring. Admission fee to the park is now $7.

This trail had a lot of variance - desert, open vistas, creek crossing, and woodland. Because of that it's one of my fav's. It's special to walk along that creek - just lovely.

An absolutely lovely little hike among the cottonwoods, along Cave Creek. Lots of wildflowers, grass, trees, and, bonus - SHADE! ...a rarity on Phoenix trails. This little hike was very dreamy because of the vegetation and the trickle of the water. But be warned, snakes need to drink too - I saw a diamondback twisting and bending around the roots of a cottonwood, slowwwwwly lowering its head down into the water. Very elegant to watch, but for those of you who don't like snakes, beware.

Its unique in such a beautfiul way. Kind of confusing in the beginning. Took a leff when i got to the area with bathrooms. Went and took the tortuga route But it was a while before I saw the Tortuga trail sign. Take it early, it gets very hot.

Great loop for kids.

great trail! a lot of variety, well marked, clear paths. Lots to see! The Quartz rocks are beautiful. A little bit of shade along the way. I started at Go John then took the Quartz trail to Slate trail and back to the parking areas, which took a little over an hour. a little bit of incline the first half, then the second half is mostly decline or flat. went on a Saturday and think I saw a total of 4 or 5 people on that trail. pushed back far enough from main roads that it really does feel desolate and peaceful. there is a $6 day pass fee, but definitely worth it!

I’ve been hiking this trail a few times a week with a friend and this is my favorite trail so far and I have hiked the trails all over the valley. So beautiful and options for more difficult trails to easier. We see the same family of deer every time we go too. Amazing!

Trail is well maintained. Moderate due to distance but no strenuous sections. Exposed so bring water if doing summer or midday.

Nice views and well maintained trails. Wish it would have had mike markers. Otherwise great hike!

Went late morning on a Saturday, and even though there wasn't a whole lot of parking available I didn't come across a lot of people on the trail. Only encountered one biker. My dog loved it and we saw a Gila monster!
