Note: This loop uses a portion of the Dragonfly Trail which is in the Jewel of the Creek Preserve. As of September 11 2020, this preserve is closed due to the Ocotillo Fire. Please check here for more information: https://www.dflt.org/jewel-of-the-creek-preserve Fee: $3 This Spur Cross loop is the most popular and easiest hike of the Spur Cross Conservation Area. The views are spectacular and the Solar Oasis is an interesting place to discover. This hike is ideal as a quick and easy loop, crossing cave creek (which is often running) several times. The desert scenery is amazing, very lush with giant saguaros. The Solar Oasis is an unexpected conservation area with an Ironwood replanting area opposite. Show more

This loop starts at Carefree Hwy and 7th Ave. The Ocotillo part of the trail is relatively flat and the Sidewinder part has some good elevation changes. Great Sonoran Desert scenery and views. This loop can get busy with mountain bikes and has some moderate elevation changes on the sidewinder part of the trail. The Ocotillo trail gets close to Dove Valley road in a few places, other than that you are well into the desert. Watch out for snakes, although mountain bikes usually make enough noise to keep them away from trails. There is no water at the trailhead or on the trail - take at least 2 liters! There is also no shade available.Show more

There is a $3 honor system fee. Please bring cash. Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area is the newest addition to Maricopa County's Regional Parks System and encompasses 2,154 acres of diverse, rugged upper Sonoran Desert. The north Valley location contains fascinating archaeology sites and lush riparian areas along Cave Creek, which flows throughout the winter months. Remnants of early mining and ranching, from which the park gets its name, are still apparent in the park. This area is a must see for all wildflower lovers in the spring. The abundant vegetation present in the conservation area provides a rich habitat for a diverse assemblage of wildlife.Show more
