Maiden Pools is one of several destinations on the Ventana Canyon Trail. See instructions and reviews for that trail. Not sure why this section is rated moderate and the longer trail hard. I’d say the lower canyon is easy (first mile or so) but as the trail ascends it gets much steeper and more rocky - i.e. hard. The trailhead is within the Ventana Canyon Resort and the first section of the trail runs along an easement through private property. It is well travelled and the trail is obvious.

My first hike last year visiting... Easy and bathrooms along the way. Little pools with small waterfalls near the top if I can recall correctly. Very scenic and memorable.

my favorite for walking, running and biking!

Great views, the mileage is off- was 5.2 miles round trip.... would like to do again after some rain...

Great trail! But the Trail length and elevation gain is wrong on this app. It’s 2.4 miles one-way from trailhead to the pools. Not 1.9 miles round trip. Elevation gain is significantly different too.

The first half hour is a little challenging depending on which end of the actual part of Phone-line you start on. This does not include the Sabino Tram Rd which goes the north part of the trail - or - Sabino Creek on the south end of Phoneline trail. But once you get to the actual trail where it levels off its a nice easy enjoyable 3 miles of breath taking views of nature. Stop and sit on a rock once in awhile and take in the scenery.

This hike is amazing and you gotta do it at least once. We are older average hikers, which means that it actually takes more like 2 hrs and 40 minutes. Canyon ranch professional hiking guides have told me that its actually more like 3 miles to the small pools from the parking lot, and you can feel and see the distance. Especially the last hour going up the switchbacks, which reminded me a little of Blacketts Ridge. But not as intense. We drank 2 L. of water between the two of going uphill. But the temp was in the 40’s F. In Jan. and i am sure that you would need more during hotter days.

Agree that the distance is wrong. More like 4.7. Beginning and end are flat, some wide trail/road.....less appealingly.

pretty view of the mountains. very easy.

Great path for running. It can get crowded at peak times, but I usually go early in the morning before the trams are running and it's much quieter. good mix of rolling hills, with a steeper portion the last 3/4 mile to the top.

If you are new to the area or new to hiking, this is a great option. It's paved so there's no need for special gear. Make sure you have enough water and protection from the sun (depending on the time of day) - there are markers every mile. I do this several times per week and almost every time is a different experience because of the abundance of wildlife and views the canyon offers.

Arrived here for a dog friendly hike; NOT DOG FRIENDLY! THERE IS A NO PETS SIGN AT THE VERY FRONT OF THE PARKING LOT. So bummed. It used to
Allow pets... not any more :(

I love this hike for initiating my loved ones! I've brought my family and boyfriend here, all of who have never really hiked much before or who haven't hiked in a really long time. It offers beautiful views all while providing an easy, paved road to walk upon. Along the way, there are a few off trail paths that dip into the cool running river that returns during the wetter months. If you get out of the way of the tram that periodically passes through along the road, you're sure to have a wonderful time!
