Great trail!! Amazing views especially on the loop on the way back! Should wear hiking shoes and carry water!

This is an excellent, moderate hike with plenty of history along the trail to read about. I was surprised how large Fort Bowie was at its' peak. If you do this hike during the summer, take plenty of water because the trail is exposed most of the time. There is a Visitor Center at Fort Bowie with a water fountain, but it is about 2 miles in. Instead of backtracking, I recommend completing the loop to get back to the trail head. There is a nice view of Apache Pass and Fort Bowie from an overlook after a short, steep hike.

Great area. Worth the extra drive, fun hike with old fort and history

A nice and easy well marked trail. Lots of historical markers along the trail to Fort Bowie Site. Restroom, flush toilets are extremely clean at ranger station

An informative loop hike through history that takes you to the visitor's center at it's furthest point.

Nice hike, and trail.

The trail is 1.5 miles one-way from the trailhead to the Visitor Center. From there, you can take a short path into the ruins of the old fort. The on-duty Park Ranger was friendly and offered many stories about the fort. The Butterfield Overland Mail Route passed through here, and the trail is still visible.

Great trail with views of the mountains and ruins of Fort Bowie. There's a dirt road that takes you to the parking area; kind of bumpy in spots. We did this in August so it was fairly hot. Recommend sunscreen since there isn't much shade on the trail. The visitor center is only open on weekends.

This is probably my FAVORITE historic site experience! It combines my love of hiking and historic sites in a perfect manner. As you hike into Fort Bowie, you pass about 10 historic/arch sites on the way in. Everything from the old stage station, cemetery, civil war battle site, Apache camp site, a spring, and more. This is DEFINITELY worth your time!

Nice hike up a hill and you can see the ruins of an old fort. Although it has a road they make you hike in so that you don't destroy the artifacts.

This hike gives you quite a history lesson. You go by a stage stop, cemetery, and a spring before you end up at old Fort Bowie.

Easy trail, but depending on the time of year the weather is sure to become very hot, so start early. Historical markers describe the fascinating conflict between the Chiricahua Apaches and the US military.
