Very easy trail with minor rolling hills—about an hour one way. It was raining and the trail was covered in fall leaves so a bit slippery. Lake is calm and pretty—friend caught a pike. Luckily not a ton of bugs in late September, but I’ve heard they’re BAD in summer.

Trail is in great condition. Be prepared for mosquitoes!!! So many of those flying pests this time of year!

A little crusty for xc skiing, but super well marked trail!

very nice little trail.

Fun hike; two kids in tow- 4 year old and 2 year old. Carried the 2 year old in a backpack. Rolling hills- easy enough. Beautiful scenery. Some bear sign, saw no bears. We hiked in mid August after the weather had cooled significantly and the mosquitos were not as bad. Fun hike for family.

My boyfriend & I rented a cabin out on the lake. We hiked in & it was hot, not many mosquitoes, but a ton of moths which we found very pretty. We got to the lake & got our canoe. It was our dogs first time in a canoe & it went super well. We arrived at our cabin shortly after. It was magical, so quiet & beautiful. Thank you to all the volunteers who keep this amazing place going. It was amazing.

Nice rolling trail. Beautiful lake at the end. Was hoping to catch a few pike but fishing wasn't very good that day.

Nice easy hike that leads to beautiful Red Shirt Lake. That being said, the mosquitos were out in the hundreds when we went on this hike. The Pike fishing was awesome and the lake was gorgeous. Not a lot of people out on it because you have to hike to get to it, so great if you want to get away from the crowds. On the hike back the mosquitos weren't nearly as bad; but still, be prepared!

By Alaska standards, this is a very easy hike. Not much elevation gain at all, if any. I would recommend waiting until the weather is colder to take this hike, though, because of the bugs. Mosquitoes the size of small birds will eat you alive out here amidst a number of area lakes. When you get to Red Shirt Lake, it is a great peaceful spot to fish, canoe or just lie on the bank.

This is an awesome trail. We spent Memorial Day weekend out there. The crowds were absent. We had our pick of the campsites. Which were very nice. Some of the islands have outhouses and campsites. There is bear boxes at some sites and the campsites around Lynx lake have tent platforms. The sounds of the loons at night and in the mornings were very eery but awesome. The sunsets over the lakes were beautiful. Skeeters weren't too bad yet!
