Waterfall at the end is very pretty. Nice flowing water scapes along the hike. Workers are actively putting gravel on the trail. The latter part of the trail had a couple fun stream crossings we had to navigate. There’s no real easy walkable path at the end to get close to the falls, so you can navigate a small steep hill or go through the cold water. It’s pretty and I felt worth getting a bit wet. Nice forest views. Lots of rocks and tree roots at the last quarter of the trail. Shouldn’t be too hard a trail if you’re a consistent walker. Elevation wasn’t bad either. Would hike again. Would bring snacks, water, hiking boots. Be careful on wood planks when wet. Quite slippery at times.

Easy and short walk. So beautiful, we were able to see so many Eagles from juvenile to adults and the totems are so stunning.

Excellent hike with beautiful views. The hike along the ridge is worth the effort of climbing hundreds of stairs!

Good Family trail with a good hill near heart lake

Easy walk around Sitka National Historical Park. Make sure to stop at the park headquarters to pick up information about the trail.

Nice little trail. Short, easy walk through a nice forest. The totems are interesting to study and there is the Indian River to walk along and look for eagles and bears.

Steps wether stone or wooden are nicely spaced. Much better than Verstovia trail. I'm sorry to say. Top views are panoramic in places.

Great falls to start with good gravel trails throughout. After Thimbleberry lake you have a little spike up to Heart lake but all maintained well and an easy trail to access to get a dose of SE Alaska terrain.

very easy walk with some steep hills on gravel road. I call it easy. Beautiful lakes.

It was the perfect day for a hike in Sitka. I'm a flight attendant and hiked Gavan Hill Trail on my layover. I was a little leary of bears but felt completely safe going alone. If you don't like climbing stairs find another hike. Holy Great Wall of Sitka!! Stairs for days! View is amazing and completely worth it. Didn't make it to the very top because of snow. I highly recommend this adventure!

For the most part it was easy to follow with lots of built in stairs made of wood or rock. Occasionally there were spots that were difficult to navigate. Once at the top of the hill the trail is more level and the epic views begin. An hour and a half got me 2600 ft. and about 3 miles.

Awesome Trail. Spectacular views at the top. One of the best maintained I've hiked. More stairs than a Chinese monastery.

Awesome hike. This beautifully maintained trail starts near downtown Sitka and climbs the hill overlooking town. The trailhead is at the end of Baranof Street. It's a strenuous climb. If you hike far enough (I think about 5 miles) there is a warming hut to escape the rain.
