The trail is something to do with a family that is active and some nice viewable waterfalls as you go hiking into the camps. I rate this place as a moderate hike.

I think it’s crazy to call this moderate compared to others like the virtually flat Indian River trail in Sitka nearby. If you’re an experienced hiker, I could see this being more easy. It’s doable, but there’s tons of tree roots boulders and not a ton of room for error walking, so I’d put it in the difficult rating. It was absolutely stupendous and I’ve never seen more stunning views.

Bring good shoes, more than a bottle of water and let people know where you are going if you take this to Arrowhead, especially If you are a novice. Enjoy! It’s a amazing hike!

Waterfall at the end is very pretty. Nice flowing water scapes along the hike. Workers are actively putting gravel on the trail. The latter part of the trail had a couple fun stream crossings we had to navigate. There’s no real easy walkable path at the end to get close to the falls, so you can navigate a small steep hill or go through the cold water. It’s pretty and I felt worth getting a bit wet. Nice forest views. Lots of rocks and tree roots at the last quarter of the trail. Shouldn’t be too hard a trail if you’re a consistent walker. Elevation wasn’t bad either. Would hike again. Would bring snacks, water, hiking boots. Be careful on wood planks when wet. Quite slippery at times.

The trail was quite enjoyable to walk up and a little less to come down. I appreciate all of the work that has gone into the steps, cables and ropes. I did find myself off of the trail once but that was my own fault. looking down at my foot placement and I missed a switchback. Others had as well so I followed their footsteps up the drainage and back on to the trail. The trail is rated moderate but I give it a difficult. even though there has been significant step work, there are sections that require some hand and leg work. I was fortunate and the sun came out as I approached the 1st summit at 2550. I did not go on due to my lack of time.

Gorgeous views on a clear day like we had! Steep and technical but worth it for the views!

Incredible hike with amazing views of ocean, bays, and snow covered mountains. This is a fairly steep climb but the trail is well maintained. It has a cool rain forest feel. We had perfect weather during this hike/trail run at the end of May. Slide down some snow on Verstovia.

Excellent hike with beautiful views. The hike along the ridge is worth the effort of climbing hundreds of stairs!

Great hike, great views

Good Family trail with a good hill near heart lake

Beautiful trail.

Steps are inconsistent in height from step to step step to ground. Otherwise beautiful views. Not many muddy places!

This trail was absolute perfection!!!!! We carried on to summit Arrowhead, so the entire hike was 8 hours with an hour break at Arrowhead peak. I highly recommend this hike, and plan to do it again next time I'm in town!

Steps wether stone or wooden are nicely spaced. Much better than Verstovia trail. I'm sorry to say. Top views are panoramic in places.

I believe this is the hike that was part of the princess cruise alaska excursion. Memorable and not difficult

Great falls to start with good gravel trails throughout. After Thimbleberry lake you have a little spike up to Heart lake but all maintained well and an easy trail to access to get a dose of SE Alaska terrain.

It was the perfect day for a hike in Sitka. I'm a flight attendant and hiked Gavan Hill Trail on my layover. I was a little leary of bears but felt completely safe going alone. If you don't like climbing stairs find another hike. Holy Great Wall of Sitka!! Stairs for days! View is amazing and completely worth it. Didn't make it to the very top because of snow. I highly recommend this adventure!

For the most part it was easy to follow with lots of built in stairs made of wood or rock. Occasionally there were spots that were difficult to navigate. Once at the top of the hill the trail is more level and the epic views begin. An hour and a half got me 2600 ft. and about 3 miles.

A beautiful hike well worth the scenery. Dogs love swimming in the lake.

Great trail! Very steep and a bit rugged. Well marked and easy to stay on the path. A few muddy spots. I made it to picnic rock in February- snow covered for the last 300 yards. The views at the top are epic!

Awesome Trail. Spectacular views at the top. One of the best maintained I've hiked. More stairs than a Chinese monastery.
