Not sure if I would rate this as easy. wasn't too bad, steeper than expected for an "easy" trail.

Challenging trail for distance , mostly incline , good workout , definately loved views .

Steep climb, trail is in mediocre shape because of its design, strait up mostly. I would say the trail is more then “lightly trafficked” in the summer months. Braided and muddy but if you take it one piece at a time with frequent rests to enjoy the views it’s not too bad. Rewarded with great views of the valley and Matanuska peak.

A fairly quick hike with fantastic views. We did it with our 5 year old and dog. The trail is steep and can be very dusty if its been dry or very muddy if its been rainy. There are benches at the top.

Missing one star due to dog poop along the trail and loose dogs that weren't well trained/friendly. As well as trash people have left.

It’s a short but steep hike. Visited Alaska from Savannah, GA and this was one the highlights for me. The challenge and the views were awesome, it’s very peaceful at the top.

Took the easy route after attempting 10mins of the harder one and nearly passed out haha I'm so unconditioned but take the easy one don't overestimate yourself like I did. I'll come back again for that harder trail later.

It was a beautiful hike, there were a few places where it got muddy and slippery due to the snow melting. It is a great practice hike.

Easy and quick. Tends to be muddy during the warmer months, but what isn't here in AK! Great for the family or casual hiker.

You can only do self-guided tours in the summer time, I think June-September. Otherwise, you'll need a guide and the cost is $25-30 if you're an Alaskan resident. I was told tour times are at 11am and 2pm, so call ahead of time if you want the tour. Did this with guide a couple weeks ago and it was beautiful. Took us through some caves and was very informative but she didn't talk our ears off. They will provide you with crampons if needed. Overall it's just beautiful, the different colors of the glacier are amazing!

moderate?! LMAO "most difficult" or "more difficult" is what the signs says when starting the trail.
amazing view the entire way up on the side of the "more difficult" bring extra clothes if you fall down on the muddy/snowy steep hike coming down in the early spring (April); water source is a must.

Very fun hike, easy enough to do with my four kids (youngest is 4) but challenging enough that they feel like they really accomplished something!

Took the longer but easier trail (Lazy Moose), was still a pretty difficult climb with the mud and ice. Lots of switchbacks and a couple of false peaks that make you think you're almost at the top. But the view at the top is absolutely gorgeous and well worth it! Pack a lunch and a sweatshirt for the summit and it's an awesome day hike!

Scott Evans where did you rent crampons and how much were they. We are planning to go next month. My wife is wary about not getting a guide. I am not sure it makes sense to spend an extra $200 for a guide. Anyone have thoughts here?

A lot of people, but overall fun, a good little work out. Not the toughest thing I’ve hiked but for not doing it for a couple years I was sweating at the top. Gonna try lazy mtn today to see if that’s gonna send it.

Easy trail to hike summer, spring & fall or cross country ski in the winter. Great sledding hill for the kids too

THIS IS NOT THE EASY SIDE!!!

Beautiful views make the vertical climb worth it, but this is definitely not the easy side.

A bit more populated than I usually like but it’s a great hike if you want something quick and close to town with good views.

The views are amazing.
Time: We got to the trail at 10 am and back to the car by 7:30-8. By we, I mean I did this hike with my 10-12 yr old nephews, it’s all about keeping their mindset on track.
Food: I packed enough food for 2 meals each for the hike and 3 liters of water. Then had them carry 2 oz waters. My nephew brought an MRE and a mini jet boiler, which totally came in handy when we got midway and it was raining and cold.
Equipment: defiantly wish I would have brought paracord rope for us when we started scaling the rocky/shingle area. I brought all the other basics for hiking in Alaska.
Watch out for underground bees on the trail, mynephew stepped on one and it defiantly kicked our butts in gear.

Love this hike, summer or winter is good. Video from this fall. https://youtu.be/be--X_6RWGc

Don't use the guid service, rent your own crampons and explore!

WARNING!!!!!!

THIS IS NOT A PUBLIC TRAIL. YOU MUST PAY $30 per person to get close to the ice.

Didn’t make it as trail covered with snow and needed snowshoes. Will try again. Beautiful views

Steep and slippery with snow. No switchbacks.

Opted with the "easier" moose mountain trail. Lots of switch backs, great elevation and decently maintained. A little rain the day before made the trail mildly treacherous. Killer veiw and fall hike.

Not too crowded today. The gate to Independence Mine is closed so you have to walk from the lower parking lot to the trail head. The snow line was just below where the trail joins the main road. About 1-2 inches of snow but very easy to walk.

Well worth the trip,we explored for a while and enjoyed it very much!

Really enjoyed this place. I roamed around for four hours in the rain and it was worth it :)

It's a fun trail, beautiful views. perfect for the day hiker. it takes me about 3 hours to get to the glacier and another 1.5 to get down

The elevation gain was a killer. However it's totally worth it once you get to the top. Seriously beautiful.
