Went on this hike while on an Alaska Cruise. We were looking for an opportunity to step outside of the touristy excursions and take Alaska on its own terms. We were not disappointed. This trail is incredible. Views from the two lower lookouts are well worth the effort.

Short trail with lots of short ups and downs through temperate rainforest. Mostly boardwalk and stairs. Piper the dog seemed to think it was ok. There are a couple of beach access points on the lower section of the trail. When we went, we were the only ones on the trail. Might be more heavily used in summer with tourists.

Did this hike yesterday. Sunny and warm day (50s). The trail itself is well maintained. Excellent views. Saw some mountain goats far off in the distance. Great view of Ketchikan Lake about 3/4 of the way up. Cool A frame cabin about 1/4 mile off the main trail on a side trail. Definitely a difficult hike if you aren’t used to hiking. We took our time and stayed out there all day. Lots of cool mushrooms along the way! Overall, great hike and great day. Worth it.

Did this on a rainy day. We loved it. The lake was pretty but the woods were even better. It was extremely overcast so I can’t comment too much on the far away view, but our immediate view was beautiful. Once you get near the top, the trees disappear for awhile and you are out in the open. You meet back up with the woods again before reaching the top. The trees get smaller and have a lot of character to them. There are a few waterfalls throughout this hike that added to the beauty. Definitely recommend on a clear or rainy day. Be prepared if it’s rainy! Wear good boots (preferably with ankle support) as there are plenty of muddy areas.

It was an amazing day! The hike is definitely challenging, but making it to top is sooooo worth it. Took us 3 hrs to get to the top and and 75 mins to get back down. Walking sticks and good shoes will make it easier, but we saw a few folks along the way without those things that seemed to be just fine.

Great Hike up through the forest consisting of mostly switchbacks. There are only a couple of viewpoint, where you can see the sea and mountain, for the majority of the way up. In the last 0.75 miles or so the trees thin out and there is a constant view of town, the sea, the mountains, and all scenery for miles and miles. The views from the top are amazing and we'll worth the hike up.

The trail is well maintained and well marked. there are many placed were wooden stept and bridges were added to improve access through some tough spots on the trail. The majority of the trail has a base of loose flat rocks that help prevent the trail from being too muddy but can make conditions slippery, even in dry conditions as rocks shift and slide. My wife did the whole hike in tennis shoes, but I would recommend using hiking boots as the rocks on the trail are prone to shifting and the trail can be tough terrain at times, especially near the the top.

This is a well maintained but fairly challenging trail with lots of roots and rocks the climb over and around. in addition, the majority of the trail has a steep incline as it weaves its way up the mountain. It is a great trail and is a fun challenge.

This was an epic hike! (I would NOT recommend if raining). 6.25 miles RT from the trailhead. Pretty steep but well worth it. Gorgeous scenery. Not one bear, mountain lion, squirrel or snake but ravens that sounded like dripping water, monkeys, and other birds-super cool. Hiking boots recommended, tennis shoes would get hammered. Bring water, I used 1.5 liters. Snack,4:06 total time.

Absolutely gorgeous. Walk from cruise port was mostly uphill (1.5 miles) but very doable. Made it to the summit at 1900 and caught a gorgeous sunset sky on the way down (was able to book it down in a little over an hour... didn’t get caught in the dark!)

Hiked this trail last Sunday. Weather was beautiful, but did not realize how humid the climb would be! The first couple of miles is definitely rain forest, heavy canopy and occasional wet/muddy spots. The last mile started to open up with views and a breeze. Made it to the summit and back in 4 hours 21 min. - but I was not in a hurry. Great workout, my legs hurt for a few days afterward. I hiked this trail as I was solo on my trip and wanted a trail with other hikers. Not busy at all, but good to see another hiker once in a while. I only rated this as a 4 because I was hoping for more views along the way. The summit was well worth the trip!

Amazing trail, gorgeous all the way there and back. Views are well worth the constant uphill hike.

Not easy but the views from the summit are breathtakingly beautiful!!

First trail I did when I moved to Ketchikan!

This trail was absolutely amazing! It was a little of a challenge for my husband and I, nothing we couldn't handle though. It is quite steep, has narrow walk points as well. The view points are fantastic! And if you're exhausted once you get to the top you'll have a gorgeous view to admire as you rest. I am 3 1/2 months pregnant and made it in 3 hrs 51 min. (took a few breaks) But if you have your mind set anyone can make it!

Amazing views. We went to the top which is for sure a difficult hike. It was fun and my wife and I did some trail running on the few flat parts but most of it is large steps, unsteady terrain and steep drop offs. I would not bring kids or older individuals not accustomed to hard hiking.

If you are an avid hiker, like me, this is a moderate hike. There are many switchbacks that make this a very enjoyable mountain run. I did RT in about 2 hrs. Amazing view when the weather is nice!

Very nice trail, with many views of the lake, birds, squirrels, even large slugs! The huge trees are awesome! My brother showed us where to view spawning salmon during the month of August.

Uphill the whole way. Oof. Great views from the top, of course. Did round trip in 6-ish hours, including summiting, visiting shelter, eating lunch, and taking photos.

Good trail into some old forest. The lake is nice, but the woods are better. Did it on a rainy day (go figure) with a friend. We really enjoyed the stillness and silence of the rain forest. Didn't go all the way to the top, but it is a good, accessible walk from town.

Awesome hiking in Ketchikan, sure beats a cruise excursion. We overestimated how steep the hike was, as a result we only made it to the first lookout.

Tough hike. Constant elevation gains. Great if you are in shape and looking for a tough hike

Great way to spend the day off a cruise ship! If you're coming in on a ship and are going to be to tight on time I'd recommend taking a taxi to to trailhead. We are in decent (but not super amazing) shape and it took us about 4 hours and 15 mins round trip, including lots of stops for photos. Lovely views from the outlooks and the top.
