This is one of my favorite hikes,I do like to hike it as much as I possibly can.
The top is so amazing, great view of the valley. In all directions, you can see everything on nice days!

Well worth the planning to get here! We also saw Cinnamon black bear just outside the glacier! He caught a salmon right in FRONT of us!!

This was a great trail beautiful green moss everywhere. I think it should be rated moderate. It could just be me though, my knees are kinda bothering me after this hike

Hiked this trail a week ago. It was a good challenge. Trail was fairly well-marked.

I didn't have spikes and I wish I did. From the start, the trail will be very muddy. As you ascend you will walk across alot of ice and then snow and ice/mud. I slipped multiple times on the way down. You can get up and down without spikes, but you will have a more enjoyable/easier time with spikes.

Just did this trail last week, 4/14/18. Great trail but we should have had our boots on. Once past the cabin the trail was super wet. Will do this trail again this summer.

Hiked it a couple weeks ago and was thank full for our spikes. Super hard hike but enjoyed the challenge. Next time we continued on to the cross

Easy hike. Breathtaking scenery!

Easy, Gorgeous after first big snow of the season!

Beautiful hike. Not as scenic as West Glacier Trail, but definitely worth it. We even crossed paths with a wolf! Take the short trail to Nugget Falls. Spectacular!

Great views on the maintained trail. We hit a dead end. Not marked well for the loop. We then took the less-traveled and unmaintained trail to the ice caves. Much more strenuous hike! Trust the ribbons to guide you.

used spikes because of enough ice under snow pack, but didn't need snowshoes. only person on trail, but trail is clear and easy to follow. fun to hike from downtown Juneau to the top of mountain and back to town for a good cocktail afterwards. view from top would be epic if the snowfall and wind came in during the missed of hike.

beautiful.!!!

Was a lot of fun to do once but I wouldn't do it again unless I wanted the exercise, there's really hardly any views until you get to the top. Worth going once for sure.

Hiked this trail in August 2017. Just being in Alaska with boots on the ground soaking it all in is enough for me. What an amazing place. Great hike!

I have hiked/run this trail for 30+ years. Relaxing and a good workout.

Beautiful easy hike. Great views of Mendenhall Glacier. The waterfall is huge and you can get up close to it. There is also a nice visitor center at the head of the trail. I know this trail can be crazy busy. We hit it just right in the middle of September and hiked it before the cruise ship came into port. We saw maybe a total of ten people the whole time. Worth the hike, just plan around the cruise ship schedule so it's not to crowded.

This is a great hike! Make sure you bring good hiking boots because the paths get really rocky and there is some climbing involved. It was a rainy day, so the climbing was challenging because it got slippery in some areas. I'm from Florida, so this definetely felt like a hard hike for me! But well worth every ounce of effort becase the views were absolutely breathtaking.

On our way there, other visitors told us that a piece of the cave collapsed and we saw a chunk of the glacier fall into the water ourselves :( this hike is a must do!

Easy trail with nice views of Nugget Falls and Mendenhall Glacier. Only downside is the large number of other people on the trail.

Cool Trail

Gorgeous trail. Levels off real fast

This was honestly one of the best days of my life!

Great short / moderately challenging day hike. Got off trail for a few minutes near the top .....sent a baby black bear climbing up a tree. That's a marvelous feeling. Fortunately momma bear wasn't around or wasn't hungry so I lived to tell the tale.

Beautiful trail, not difficult. We hiked to the unfortunately named Glory Hole, which was disappointing. Some lovely alpine and waterfall views along the way made it worthwhile. 16km hike in total (started in Juneau proper).

fantastic hike! great views of the glacier that are better than the visitors center imho. I prefer to take the cairn trail, which has the ice extent markers - about half way through to the ice on the trail, you'll see the an ice extent marker on your right and then another small trail that'll take you over the rocks and right down to the foot of the glacier. I recommend this route if you're trying to get to the foot and ice caves.

Great day hike! Beautiful up close views of the Mendenhall glacier and ice caves. Only downside is there can be a lot of hikers up there particularly on a nice day. Bring an extra layer or two as well - its colder than you think, especially if the wind picks up.
