This trail is a large paved path about the width of one lane of a road that runs along the highway. I would consider this to be an easy trail. Good for kids biking. It is pretty exposed so wind can be a real problem (brrrr), but the exposure does provide some gorgeous views of the Cook Inlet! I wouldn’t call this a “hike”, more like a walk.

This is literally 45 degrees rock climbing lol but the view at the top is worth it! It took us 4 hours to get to the top and 2 hours to get down. It was the hardest hike I've ever done

Enjoyable walking or biking, but can be very windy

Steady incline at the beginning then tapers off a bit through the forest then back at it again! It is closer to 6 miles round trip than 5. Lake Charie at the end makes it all worth it. It took us about 4 hours to go out and back. Prepare yourself for a climb, but again, it is worth it.

This is definitely a fun trail and the last part of the trail is indeed very technical. We ended up going up from the scree side and coming down on the cliff side (which was very challenging and probably not very safe). The view is absolutely gorgeous!

I love the trail but once you get to a certain point having a dog with you is dangerous, it turns into cliffs real fast. Having 2 German Shepherds with me got real sketchy, real fast. So if you do it, I’d say about 3/4 of the trail is good for dogs, the last bit gets a little too scary for that. It was beautiful though!

It’s a steep up hill hike. However the two lakes and the view are worth it.

Love this trail and definitely going to be doing it again! On the description it says you can bring your dog(s), personal opinion is don’t if you want to make it to the top (Which is why I’m only giving it 4 stars). The first half of the trail is awesome to have your fur baby explore with you, but once you hit the rock climbing part of it, it’s very uncomfortable. Lots of sharp, slippery rocks and very thin and steep. If something were to happen to our dog going up, we were going to have a VERY, VERY hard time getting him down. It sets in one of the most uneasy feelings with your fur baby. Other than that, it is such an awesome hike that my husband and I can’t wait to do again! It is a difficult hike, but soooo worth it.

I did this in March and I was using my nanospikes about half of the time for snow and ice. A big beautiful Dall sheep showed up near the saddle and walked up for a ways- helped me find the path!

This hike was super challenging but fun as heck, lots of different terrain to work with. View from the top was stunning, couldn’t stay long because the wind picked up.

Up, and then up again. It got foggy at the top but still great views of the mountains and inlet.

Great hike. The lake at the end of the trail was still frozen but beautiful. My legs were so sore the day after-steep almost without noticing-

Up, up, up. Feels like you're going straight up, but it's worth it. You feel accomplished and there's a stunning view, probably my favorite view of the arm. It can be a bit windy at the top.

Was awesome! The View

My favorite trail...Rated hard...Definitely would say it’s accurately labeled...Pays in the end

Steep hike but worth it.

Amazing view from the top! Pretty steep on some sections though. Not terrible on the way up but it feels like it takes forever to get up there. Right when you think you may be close you realize you still have a ways to go. Rather brutal on the knees on the way down but, over all worth it for the view. Took a little over 2 hours to get to the summit with plenty of short brakes. Would advise bringing plenty of water if it’s warm although it can get windy and chilly near the top. Was still snow on the very top of the mountain.

This is a paved trail with restrooms and stopping points. I bring my dogs on this trail and keep them leashed at all times. There are a few bikes that use this amazing trail and you don’t want your dog getting ran over. I pick this trail up at Bird Point right off the Seaward. 8 miles to Girdwood.

Difficult, but worth the pain. Not recommended for families with small children due to the difficult slope of the entire hike and rough path.

It was a rough climb! Very steep! Some treacherous sections! Loose rock, scrambling. Got off trail towards the end. It’s difficult to find it. But it’s pretty obvious what peak you’re heading for. Download the map and try to follow it. Beautiful views!! But not easy!!

Welp, this trail is accurately labeled as "hard" as it goes pretty much straight up the whole way. Boy was it nice though. The views were great and there were plenty of good spots to take a rest. We ran into quite a few people, it was heavily trafficked. Near the top it gets really windy so come prepared for that. Great hike, would definitely recommend to hikers up for a challenge!

This is truly a hard trail. My BF and I are new to hiking in AK and have lived here for only 7 months. This trail kicked our butts and reminded us that we are getting older. We have done a couple of other hard trails but this one had us working hard the whole time! The views are beautiful and it was easier for us going up, we took regular "catch our breath breaks", but coming back down my knees were not happy. We were grateful for our walking sticks, wing breakers when we got towards the top, and snacks. There are a few false peaks that chip at your motivation to keep going. I think we made it to the second to the last peak...but I could be wrong. As novices for this type of hiking, straight up and straight down, we felt good for how far we got, we enjoyed the views. No wild animals sited but the mosquitos are out! Traffic was mild due to it being in the middle of the week. Always listen to your body and don't over do it! Enjoy the hike...for us it's about the enjoyment, nature, and views...it is never a race to get to the top :)

Did this on 4/15/2018 on a gorgeous day with an incredible view. We had a nine and ten year old with us so we took several breaks along the way. We decided to turn back two ridges from the top. At that point snow was still all over and trekking sticks would’ve been helpful. Going down was slippery and wet. About two dozen people were on the trail along with us so it’s highly packed down. Still an amazing hike and will try again this summer.

Steep incline at the start to get the heart racing. It starts to mellow out, but don't count on much. I made it to about 1700ft before the snow got posty. Will be back.

Did this 11/15/17 and it was gorgeous... Lots of snow and breathtaking views. Spikes or yaks needed..

a friend from work and I decided to try this one yesterday before the snow came. We got off work around 4 and drove out there from anchorage (30 min drive) and tried to get a workout in. mission accomplished.
great views, and although we didn't make it to the top (we were starting you lose daylight and we're not familiar enough with Alaska yet) we enjoyed it and will return to compete it.

**Finished April 8, 2018**
Now that trail is a workout! It deserves a Hard rating... Amazing views of the Turnagain Arm are your reward at the top, and the expansive sight of the Chugach peaks as a colossal backyard.

I was on my way to the Anchorage airport from Seward and saw this trailhead from the side of the highway to I decided to pull over. I wasn't going to hike it but what brought me to pull over was the gorgeous waterfall right at the beginning of the trailhead!! It's the middle of October so all the bright orange and yellow leaves were on the ground and it was just a beautiful scene without even having to hike. But I did start the trail a tiny bit and walked up just because I was curious. The path was covered in leaves but it was honestly gorgeous with the creek running alongside you too. I walked maybe 1/8 of a mile in (I was in high heeled boots lol not the best hiking apparel and I had to flight to catch or I totally would've done more) but I can see why it's rated hard. That tiny portion was continuously straight uphill and kept going on like that for what I could see. But I'd imagine it's beautiful the rest of the way up too. If I'm ever back in the area I'll definitely try to go back to this one and do the trail!

Amazing fall colors. Nobody in trail but us. Very windy at the top but the view of the twin lakes is beyond beautiful.
