I visited Haines on a cruise and had originally intended to hike up to Mt. Ripinski, but it was rainy and cloudy, so the locals advised against it. As an alternative I headed left from the cruise port and up to the trail that led to Battery Point. It turned out to be a great choice - a beautiful, well-maintained trail through some stunning woodlands and then down along to the coast to a rocky point. Tons of wildflowers, some amazing scenery and not a lot of people. There was a turnoff about half way through the hike that led off to other trails but I didn't have time for it. This is a great option if you are in Haines and want something that is beautiful but not overly strenuous.

One of the most beautiful hike !

This trial is well worth the effort! Even if you only go a mile or two. It's the payoff for all the rain in Haines.

Loved the views from the top and well worth it.

early April, super windy and cold, but fun

We hiked this trail in July, 2017 and the trail itself is wonderful. It is well maintained and starts at an easy access point just outside of town (Skyline Trailhead). From here, you will follow a well defined trail with log bridges and log stairs as appropriate through many switchbacks up the East side of Mt Ripinski. The temperate rain forest is a delight to experience and very different if you are used to hiking in the lower-48 states. This trail is very accessible for those arriving in Haines for a day visit on a cruise ship although it offers interesting terrain that can satisfy even experienced local hikers. The highlight of the hike is a short southerly path which will take you right to the edge of the Haines Cliffs, which are one of the most readily visible landmarks within a short hike of town. Careful, watch your step on the ledge!

A fun hike through beautiful, soggy woods that change to high brush and then ends with a rock top. Catch a few springs along the way. Great for mushroom hunting or just going out for a walk in the woods. The view from Riley, though not as epic as Ripinski, is still a gorgeous place to sit.

Walked to the point, heard some whales but came out of the forest a little too late to see them. Good easy hike to point.
