Beautiful hike in the Fall! Great trail that takes you by lakes, a stream a boulder field at the end. Well maintained and traveled.

This was an absolutely perfect day for hiking this trail. Beautiful views, a few varying temperatures but hey that’s what you get in Alaska. One thing I wish I had known prior to arrival was that there is a $5 fee to park at the lodge area. This was my first time hiking the trail and had to make a decision at the fork in the trail as to go left or right. Decided to go right which took us up the path along the ski lift. That path is fairly vertical and will wear you out fast with the gain in elevation. Not for the novice hiker in my opinion or if you want a more leisure hike. Once to the top there were spectacular views of all the changing colors of the landscape below. It is solemnly quiet at the top. Started at 5 pm so the clouds began gently rolling in and gave an amazing show as they crept across the tops and through some of the saddles. Also we found the easier trail that has far less elevation gain up to the ridge-line-between the two peeks. After taking in the spectacular show of the sunlight through the clouds, we headed down the backside ridge-line and followed the spring track. The mountain spring was flowing gently and provided some great sounds. The sun was beginning to get pretty low and provided breathtaking scenery at a much more enjoyable descent. There were 6-7 people we crossed paths with on the hike. I would highly recommend this for someone likes evening hikes for how gorgeous the day was. If you plan on hiking this trail on a wet day make sure you have good shoes or boots. Well worth the work to get to the top.

Very beautiful hike and great view of Eagle River and on a good day, you might see part of Anchorage as well.

Did this one in the winter around April, at the top there was snow up to my thigh but was well worth the views up top!

Beautiful view, given it started drizzling mid-hike but nonetheless it was gorgeous. Trail gets steeper and more gravelly as you get closer to the top but overall was a fun hike.

Recommend bringing trekking poles. Very steep on the way up, if you take the right entrance. Left side could be used for both up and down if you don’t mind walking a little longer and stay on the safe side. Amazing view on the top though! Could be a great work out trail!

Fantastic hike!! definitely not for the faint hearted, the walk is pretty steep and the air gets very thin but it's worth it for the views! FYI the ski lift looks like its shut but there are two so keep walking down and you'll see it; $15 for a trip down - we were dead on our feet so were more than happy to grab it. Lots of wasps around the top for anyone allergic. A must hike!

Great views of Eagle and Symphony lakes. There are about 3 campsites down towards Eagle lake and 3 or 4 more down near Symphony lake. You cannot camp in or near the shelter because of terrain. There is one tree for shade in the area. If camping there in the summer, bring your own shade. The rock scramble easily adds a few miles worth of effort to the hike.

Well worth the hike. I’d recommend going up the hard route (right) and reward yourself by coming down the easier side (left). The views at the top were breathtaking. Took about 35 minutes up with water breaks and had the summit to myself. If you have the time, continue along the ridge to Black Tail (another must do).

The trail is reopened after the fatal mauling.
Be bear aware; this trail is part of the bears home area, bring bear spray, make noise, dont hike alone and stay together.

The trail itself is well maintained, easy to follow and clean. The last section you need to cross a boulder field, watch your step, and take your time. The first bridge is roughly half way there. We had no issue with bugs but still brought bug spray.

It is a long walk bring enough water and snacks/lunch. don't forget to bring your trash out with you.

Steep steep to the top, but so worth it! Went down the easier way, and that helped a lot.

First time ever today. So awesome! The views are spectacular.

Fun longer loop that takes you nearer the river and past a few beaver ponds. The boardwalk over the ponds allows good views of the surrounding mountains

Path goes to a great viewing area. There was a Merlin Hawk that tried to catch a duck right in front of us

Our hike on this trail was terrific. The road going to the trail head was freshly paved in 2018. Terrific view of Eagle River at the top. My 5 year old did it under his own power, so I would describe it as a family friendly hike. I highly recommend trekking poles for stability, they were a huge help in a few spots.

If you want a challenge take the telephone trail path up and keep on right to connect with main trail. It will work every muscle in your legs. Feels great!

Definitely a good workout hike. Trekking poles would help on the way down. Beautiful view from the top.

Hiked it yesterday with my husband 3 kids and dog. Was an awesome hike and the view at the top was amazing!!

Beautiful hike, read the reviews and they were definitely right! Take the right trail at the fork to get the steepest part of out the way on the way up!

Great day hike near the old Nike Missile Site across from JBER and amazing views of the Anchorage bowl area. My son and I followed the ridge over to Highland Mt from Gordon Lyon for a view of downtown Eagle River. Gordon Lyon definitely steeper on the backside!

Snack bar at the trail head and lodge available to rent. They have had trouble with vehicle break-ins here so I recommend going on the weekend when there’s more people. Watch out for cow parsnip at the beginning of the trail -toxic to humans and pets. Trail accessible from Arctic Valley Rd (open from 0600-2200).

But there are several downsides to legalising marijuana for recreational purposes. One of the main issues is that legalisation sends out a message to impressionable adolescents that marijuana is perfectly acceptable. The other issue is that it will become far easier for minors to purchase marijuana even though it will supposedly only be available to those over 21 yo. Just like alcohol, teens can always find older siblings or friends to buy cannabis for them but having said that, it's already fairly easy for young people to purchase marijuana, whether it's legally acquired or not.

Went up on the right fork, came down on the left. Beautiful views. For someone who’s afraid of heights, it took us an hour to reach the top. Loved this hike!

Great hike. Close to Anchorage and suitable for many.

Great hike! Recommend trekking poles to help with the climb down if you choose to go down the steeper side.

At Eagle River nature center $5 for parking. Gift shop and maps inside. Trail provides a lot of shade on sunny days. Pretty views at the bridge very easy for old and young. Dogs welcome on a leash. Trail is well marked even if you did get lost there's signs every so often to keep you on track.

The trailhead is confusing to find. You will go thru the locked red gate then continue to the electrical structure with the fence around it then if you look to the left the trailhead starts. The hike is great but up is a must. Hiking sticks would have been helpful.

Closed due to brown bear attacks 7/12/18

Don’t do this hike right now, there was a fatal bear attack weeks ago and Fish and Game was unable to find the bear responsible in this area. They recently reopened the area, but with an increase in bear sightings in the area they closed it and placed traps. Please be safe! (ADN article below for more information)

Dog and kid friendly. One of the most beautiful platform decks that I’ve ever been too. My 3-year old daughter and I can’t stop returning. Check out the hollow tree along the route as it also makes for a great picture. We did see a black bear along the trail but it didn’t mind our presence.

My favorite hike. Done it many times!
