This is an amazing trail that I believe all hardcore hikers should experience. I’ve done this hike twice and both were in the clouds. Don’t plan on doing anything else in the day if you’re doing the hike. My friend and I started at 8 in the morning and didn’t get back until 9 at night. He was a little rusty and we took quite a few breaks, but it’s still a very lengthy hike. Bring a ton of water and snacks, various kinds of weather clothing, and bear protection. The lower half is quite bushy and the willows can be hard navigating through, but above the tree-line is much easier going. The last portion of the hike (the slope of the mountain itself) is very rough and all boulders making for a long and never ending ascent. The descent is even more tough and can wear down on knees and ankles, so bring very supportive hiking shoes with you. The view is awesome! It feels like you’re on top of the world. I definitely want to do this hike again when it’s sunny and clear out for a better view of the coast that lies in the south.

Tuff, but rewarding scenery + views

Great evening hike! One exception is the trail is confusing when you reach the base of the hill( before getting to the top) as which path to take going it up over the boulders can be a challenge if you have bad knees or back. It’s beautiful once you get to the top. I plan on this to be my go to hike for the summer. I am 58 out of shape took me a hour to get up to the top, lots of places to stop and breath.

Beautiful views at the top. I counted 526 steps on the way up and recorded 2.31 miles roundtrip from the parking lot. It is not as strenuous as you’d think. Definitely worth it! Also, we had a big truck pulling an RV and were able to park just fine. Parking is $5.

Hiked this trail June 2. Very warm below tree line, but above it was nice. Highly recommended. Would rate this trail moderate if hiking June thru July.

Good hike. If you are with young children be prepared to carry them because there are a lot of stairs.

It's pretty straight uphill almost the entire way but it's not extremely strenuous. Dog friendly. great views from the top.

Definitely bring skis, snow shoes, or split boards if heading in while there is still snow, and the temps are above freezing later in the day.

I started at first light and everything was still frozen and kosher. On the way back, once the snow started to melt, I ended up post holing for a good two miles.

I did this hike as a workout for my sheep hunt and had 65lbs on my back. The first steep incline isn’t terrible, and it was a nice leisurely stroll when it leveled out about the 2 mile mark. Once you get to about the 4.5 mile mark is when most of the real work begins. The last 1/2 mile heading up to the peak is at one heck of an incline. I dropped the heavy pack and just took water up to the top. Definitely have appropriate footwear and trekking poles. Lots of loose rocks.

Know your limits. If you don’t think you can safely make it up to the peak, then don’t attempt it.

A classic, valley right-of-passage

The trail begins with a steep incline before leveling out for a bit as you hike through the valley leading up to the peak. Views are incredible in every direction, and wild blueberries grow everywhere during the summer. Trail is well marked for the majority of the hike, but markers tend to be difficult to spot for the last 1000'. Be prepared for an aggressive elevation gain with lots of scrambling as you approach the top. Views are breathtaking from the summit. This was my first attempt at something like this, so it took me about 9-10 hours to complete the trail. Would not recommend to anyone who considers themselves unfit. Very strenuous climb, but well worth every step.

This hike will whoop you if you're unfit and unprepared. Full day hike if slow pace. Keep an eye out for critters on the trail. They're very trusting up there. Bear bells are advised. If you bring a dog(s)... PUT BOOTIES ON THEM PLEASE! Last year I saw a dog bleed near to death because closer to the top the rocks are insanely sharp. Very strenuous climb.

Love this hike, I've hike it twice once in late summer and once in the winter. Trail markers aren't always visible in the winter so make sure you know your way and start early so you have plenty of daylight. The views are excellent!
