great walk

Very historical. It is a paved trail. Very easy hike. Good for the whole family.

Very easy trail until the last 1/4 mile or so, then you are walking through beach sand the rest of the way. Totally worth it thought because you end at a stretch of beach that is mostly deserted. Great place to visit if you are in the Gulf Shores area and want to escape the crowded public beaches.

Kid friendly, no dogs. Beautiful scenery and you end up at the beach! One of my favorites. When I take my little one, this is usually where we go.

Great ADA compliant and family friendly trail that is a mix of gravel and hardwood. Travels through a maritime forest then to a more coastal area alongside Little Lagoon. The trail is actually a little shorter than a mile.

Bring plenty of bug spray and watch for armadillos, alligators and rattle snakes (I only saw an armadillo). Short but challenging trail due to the sand. Had a great early morning solo hike.

on Pine Beach Trail

There was no sign with map of Trails or Destination Points. We walked down gravel road a ways and turned around.

I hiked the Jeff Friend Trail and part of the Pine Beach trail via the Centennial connector trail. The Jeff Friend loop and part of the Pine Beach trail are well maintained with great views of Little Lagoon and Gator Lake. The Centennial trail connector has some overgrown areas and in need of maintenance on some of the boardwalks. All of the trails have good interpretive and directional signage throughout.

Wasn’t sure what I was getting into but through the woods through sand dunes you pop out at your own beach.. crystal clear water and to top it all off..dolphins swim just off the shore!!! This was a great hike and gets you away from the crowds of people in gulf shores!!

Hiked this morning. Easy trail till you get to the sand dunes. Ditch the footwear and walk barefoot to the beach unless you want to throw sand everywhere.

Great park for exploring the battle of horseshoe bend. The trails are lovely and the entire park has good signage. You can walk or drive. We stopped in and talked to the ranger who recommended a hybrid walk that was a mix of trail and road it was great.

Only downside was a lack of trash cans. There are some at the visitor center but that was all. Otherwise no complaints. We found the trails very well kept for May. No ticks on us or the dog.

We did a ruck here with our crossfit buddies & it was a blast! Heavy backpacks made this trail a little more strenuous. Very pretty easy trail to the beach!

Very easy hike. Definitely a good one for little kids to attend. Pretty disinteresting if you are looking for a good hike, but great if you like history.

Really fun easy walk! Great for kids! No dogs. Lots of sand toward the end so wear tall socks or go barefoot.

Dogs are NOT allowed on this trail. We were unable to hike here. Gulf Shores State Park is not far from this location and offers numerous dog friendly trails.

update - The Jeff Friend trail loop has been completed renuvated with a new level walking surface. They installed wooden foot bridges with composite decking material that border the water shoreline. just beautiful.

WALKED THIS TRAIL SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IVAN IN 2000-TO 2004, THEN IVAN PUSHED ALOT OF SALT WATER INTO THE FRESHWATER -GATOR LAKE, IT DID SOME DAMAGE TO THE ECO SYSTEM BUT I HAVE HEARD ITS BACK TO NORMAL, I AM FROM MOBILE AND LIVED IIN THE GULF SHORES AREA FOR 10 YEARS. I HAVE NOT HIKED THE BEACH TRAIL SINCE 2007 0R 2008 BUT ALL HAS RETURNED TO NORMAL FROM THE PICS I HAVE SEEN. I LOVE THE PRIVATE BEACH DOWN FROM GATOR LAKE, ..IF YOU WANT A GREAT PLACE TO LAY OUT AND SWIM IN PRIVATE TAKE THIS TRAIL, YOU MAY SEE AN OCCASIONAL HIKER BUT THATS ALL, BEFORE IVAN GATOR LAKE HAD SOME GOOD FISSHING, NOT SURE NOW

Up and down trail circling the Horseshoe Bend Battlefield. The trail is graveled in large portions but is a little muddy in places. The hike itself took about an hour. Didn't see a soul on the trail and only a few people in the park. I also went through the visitor's center and traveled the auto tour loop. Made for an enjoyable half day trip.

beautiful view of the lagoon and beach

Did this and the latter half of pine beach trail. There are the ruins of an old house off the trail with some interesting history. The bear is secluded and probably one of the few places where there are no condos built.

A hidden gem. The park is beautiful and the Talapoosa is very scenic. The area of the trail along the river is five degrees cooler. I ride a motorcycle to the park and hike this trail year round. Very little hiking traffic.

This was a great hike and provided a very different experience than a forest or woods trail. But the last quarter mile or so was very sandy which made for a fairly strenuous hike that led to a secluded beach. There were 2 side trails off this trail. Gator lake trail was a strenuous mile long and very sandy. But the Centennial trail was easier and extremely enjoyable. All the trails are out and back and total 11 miles round trip

Was enchanted by this very different (when you think of hikes/trails you think of forest and mountains automatically) walk. It was sublime. So much diversity in scenery and vegetation with a wonderful isolated beach finish. Two days later I did the Centennial trail that is just off of Pine Beach Trail for 6 miles (when you also do Jeff Friend). Outstanding trails.
