This is the BEST FREE way to see Stonehenge. Parking at the visitor center and lot requires prior booking and can be VERY expensive. There are trails all across the surrounding fields and area that you can use. This one is the best and easiest.

It also allows access to trails that can get you to Woodhenge and the nearby neolithic burial mounds. It also allows you to see the Stones outside of normal visitor hours.

Park on the side of Willoughby Rd near the intersection with Fargo Road. From there walk straight down Byway 12. (You'll pass the neolithic burial mounds on your right.)

Walk all the way to where the buses are letting people off and go through the gate.

You'll walk along a dirt path about .2 miles next to the sidewalk that paying visitors are using. You can get about 50 feet from the stones.

Total trip is about 2-2.5 miles. (You'll notice from this recording that we went in a wrong gate and had to backtrack.)
