Started from the Irish Sea at St Bees on July 11, 2018. A beautiful walk along the coastline past the lighthouse. We could see the Isle of Man off the coast. We headed inland through pastures then along a rail line to a path into Cleator. The steep climb started after Cleator leading up a steep dirt road near forest clear cutting fields. Afterwards there was a final steep trail up to the top of the hill that could be seen from Cleator. There were two cairns at this spot. From there we headed across the rolling hilltop to a steep rough downhill into the valley that led northward to Ennerdale.

This trail has everything you want in a hike: mountains, meadows, forest, wildlife, birds, English villages, and more. We did it in 12 days and stayed in B&Bs. This trek is not easy, the Lake District does have steep inclines where a few places are a scramble. If it's raining and slick it could get scary... when there is not a steep incline/decline it's a 20+ mile slog of a day. Worth it, but I would say it's a difficult hike as opposed to a moderate.

Except for the 24 mile day the hiking is fantastic . Picture perfect. Highly reccomended.

It’s actually 192 miles. It’s an amazing journey.
