Just enough elevation to make you feel you’re working but not enough to be a slog. Great variety, lovely views.

We went in late August, whether was fair enough but Lakes District is very busy and this trail had the feel of a motorway at times. Pretty, easy trail along the river to Skelwith Force and Bridge, there’s a cafe, shops and galleries. The flat part along the river was accessible for everyone, several road crossings, in fact much of the walk was accessible by car but the tarn is in a lovely setting and both Elterwater and Skelwith offer food/drink options. But if you’re looking for an adventure away from the crowds this isn’t it.

glorious

Moderately challenging trail with fantastic views.
First half is manageable for children. Was fine for my 8 year old daughter.
Suggested itinerary is head to Rydal from Ambleside. Take the higher trail up to see the very interesting Rydal Caves. Then turn back at the half way point, and head down towards the main trail along the river for a beautiful and more relaxing walk back towards Ambleside. Great views and well worth the hike.
Second half of trail may involve steeper ascent and less suitable for younger ones .

Great day hike with many side trails that take you up to high vantage points.

Great climb, wall falls! View!

Had a great, very warm walk around Loughrigg Fell. I went up to the top while leaving my wife waiting at the bottom. Took about 25 mins to get up from the bench. Overall a lovely, long walk.

This was my first ever hike with any amount of climbing, so I can attest that this trail is perfect for a newbie. Absolutely lovely walk, not difficult. The Rydal cave is great bonus.

Thoroughly enjoyed this walk however there was some uneven terrain, I would recommend to anyone uneasy on their feet that this is not necessarily an easy walk.

Always a lovely hike up and around Loughrigg- take in the summit and the viewpoints at Todd Crag and Grasmere Terrace
