Snowdon via Watkin Path is a 7.9 mile loop trail located near Beddgelert, Gwynedd, Wales that features a lake and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Lovely trail up the Watkin path recommended to anyone with reasonable level of fitness and adequate clothing. The views are amazing ! The clear blue lagoons with waterfalls, the wildlife and the landscape will take your breath away. This is a true adventure but pay attention, the trail is a steady ascent and near the top it becomes steeper and requires some scrambling over loose rock. Nothing too difficult in dry weather but not recommended for beginners and could become dangerous in wet weather. Relatively quiet path compared to the more popular routes, although the summit itself was still very busy. Definitely recommended for an alternative route up or down the mountain!
Amazing views!! :) Sadly the cloud joined us just as we reached the scree section on Watkin - which you will want to save some energy for. It is a sharp incline on this final ascent, but take care and it is very doable (though I would not recommend for novices in inclement weather). Descending via Bwlch Main as per the route is highly recommended, very fun. (completed route Sept 2020)
Wow! What an adventure this was. Took my youngest two up aged 9 and 10 and they loved it! Only one small section that I admit to being a little nervous but they smashed it! Finished off with a dip in the pools on the way back down. Awesome day!
Great walk up Snowdon via the Watkin Path. The trail is a steady ascent, and near the top it becomes steeper and requires some scrambling over loose rock. Watch the final ascent. Not to be attempted in poor weather or visibility.
Difficult at the scramble part, just before the summit. Otherwise pretty easy
Lovely trail up the Watkin path and down Rhyd Ddu path. Some sections of scrambling but generally clear to see where the paths go (at least on a clear sunny day). The summit was busy even on a Monday and you could see how much more crowded the other routes were. Took us 5 hours including lunch and snack breaks. Would recommended to anyone with reasonable level of fitness and decent boots :-) * the car park is £6 (or £3 up to 4 hours) and only takes coins at the moment *
Wow. Amazing trail, best I’ve done in the UK for me (lucky to have perfect weather). Tough hike, not recommend for beginners, lots of scrambles, one scary section (final ascent up to Snowdon) but worth it! This hike has everything, views, scrambles, clear blue lagoons with waterfalls you can swim in. Also a lot less busier than the other trails. Highly recommend.
Very tough in places. Massive feeling of success to have done it!
Really good trial, hard going towards the top but rewarding,we did the whatkin to the summit,& down the miners almost 23k all the way around,I’d definitely recommend you do the whatkin but not with children as the climbing is steep, see you soon again whatkin path
Amazing trail, even in cloud it’s super scenic, waterfalls, ruins, and when you climb high enough views over looking crib goch, pyg and miners trail. Lots of steps so does work the legs! seems a bit quieter than the other routes up snowdon which is nice. Very steep loose stone nearing the top, but all good fun
