The High Carneddau is must do hill walk in Snowdonia. It offers amazing views! This walk starts off with a scramble up Pen yr Ole Wen along the East Ridge. Following the signed footpath at the west end of Llyn Ogwen over the top of Ole Wen and Carnedd Dafydd to Carnedd Llewelyn, then a north west path (not visible at first) to Yr Elen. Carrying on in the same direction past a small cairn to the path directly down towards Bethesda, until half way down the ridge then turning West across open land to join the path on the other side of Afon Llafar and down into Bethesda for a deserved pint in The Bull. Returning south along the A5 for half a mile and joining cycle path 85 at the quarry entrance and the return to start via Nant Ffrancon.  You can also extend this walk on and over to Pen yr Helgi Du and Pen Llithrig y Wrach for an even longer day out.

First to Review

This route is ridiculously long at the end, it’s an unnecessary long 10km walk on the main road. Steep the begin with, not much more difficult than other scrambling mountains, but it has a very steep descent at the end of the mountain. The lack of a route/path made the end more difficult. The 4 peaks were nice, and a joy to see
