Starting from the Hermitage Point trailhead, this hike skirts Colter Bay's eastern shore and heads south on Hermitage Service Road. At the next trail intersection turn right onto Jackson Lake Overlook Trail. continue south, bypass Hermitage Point Cutoff on your left, and follow the eastern shore of Heron Pond to an intersection with Hermitage Point Trail. Turn right at this intersection. After departing from Heron Pond, the trail continues south. Eventually, the trail enters an open sage meadow, continue through the open meadows as your hike takes you north along the eastern shoreline of Hermitage Point. Pass the designated campsite and Hermitage Point Cutoff trail by staying right, then turn left at the next intersection with another Hermitage Point Cutoff. From here the trail goes over a tiny hill and terminates at a four-way intersection with Swan Lake Trail and Jackson Lake Overlook Trail. Stay right to join Swan Lake Trail. Swan Lake Trail skirts the western edge of Swan Lake. Once you've departed Swan Lake, turn right at the next intersection with a connector trail, and the trail finishes back where you started.

I did the easy out and back to Heron Pond. Pretty nice and peaceful hike with good views. Definitely bring bear spray as a Ranger told me of a mama black bear and her cubs that are active in the area. Good hike for some quick exercise and fresh air.

Decent. Average trail for a forest. Not the spectacular National Park Trail you have become accustomed to.

A pretty easy trail through beautiful woodland, and by a couple of ponds. Recommend an early start during the summer, as it can get warm quickly. The ponds are lovely and the views of Mt Moran and surrounding peaks are gorgeous. A good trail if you’re hiking with kids. Plus, we saw a bear and a couple of cubs right before we got to Swan Lake!

Great easy relaxing hike. Heron pond and swan lake were beautiful. Lots of signs to follow so easy to miss one and have to double back. Wildflowers, swans, heron, and lily pads.

Even though it’s an easy trail, bring bear spray as we saw a grizzly mother & cubs near Swan Lake

Great trail to start acclimating and no steep climbs. Lake views beautiful, sage meadows, moose conditions perfect today but moose had other plans.

Hiking

Nice family/gentle hike through forest, meadows and lake shore. pretty flowers and lilies on the lakes. some beautiful views too. downsides were a lot of horse poop on the trail as it must be used by the local horse pack operation and subsequently there are a lot of flies. ok if you keep walking but I wouldn't recommend stopping. Saw a grizzly when we were 100yards from the end of the hike, which was exciting,

Hiking is under a lot of shade from large trees- lots of bugs in the evening- smooth trails but signage is mediocre- bring a map- it is easy to get turned around. Not a bad hike- has some nice views of mountains.

completed 6.4.19 OK hike. Nice alpine trail except that it is also a horse trail, so we had to dodge horse piles along the way. Pretty but not spectacular. This is a quick and easy hike. We enjoyed spending time by Jackson Lake more than seeing Swan Lake.

Small hike but nothing special. The lakes are covered in Lilly pads. I would only do this hike when you’ve done most of the others. We did the lakeshore hike which is nearby and wanted more miles for the day so we chose this one.

Nice and easy, especially if you’ve been doing more challenging stuff recently. Done with my 14-year-old hiking enthusiasts… Good for an end of the day leg stretch. Some horse droppings through to being shared I packed trips. Very pretty, nearly flat.

Can get lost around dusk if you don’t track main trail. Alltrails was super accurate even without downloaded map.

started around noon but had a lot of shade. easy walk and great lunch spot next to Heron Pond (big log with amazing view) - would have done the full hermitage loop but had limited time. osprey on swan lake. active bear warning but never saw or heard any...

Family hiked this trail with the ranger led group which starts at 1:00 pm. The hike was 3 miles long and lasted 3 hours - not sure why AllTrails says it's 8 miles even the trail map matches. It was very nice and easy. We saw a pair of trumpeter swans and a beaver den. A great view of the mountains across the lake.

This is an easy-to-moderate loop located in the Colter Bay area of the park. It offers a nice stroll through some natural bird habitats, as well as decent views of the Tetons through some sections. Overall, this trail is appropriate for most ages, as the elevational change is pretty minimal.

it was a fun little loop to do during the winter. Not very many roads are plowed during the winter so we had few options. But it was worth the little trip. Has some awesome views!
