The road to the trailhead was closed when we went two weeks ago. Expect to add at least a mile or two to the total distance depending on where you park if it's still closed.
The hike itself was great. Great natural scenery along the rim for the first couple miles and neat little thermal steam vents, geysers and stuff as you get closer to the bottom. Also beware of biting flies in the grassier portions at the bottom, but they're not too bad closer to the river. Challening hike coming back up for sure, but very rewarding.

This was pretty amazing hike in yellow stone. Just to think you start at inspiration point and finish at the river. Fist part of hike pretty easy with some amazing views. Then the hike down pretty steep but wow the view. You will finish at the river. Suggest to eat lunch there great spots to sit and relax until the hike back up. That's intense but so worth it.

Beautiful and fairly empty (when I went) with easy to follow trail. It is in bear and wolf territory so be prepared. Hike out is fairly flat at first with lots of scenic lookouts into the canyon, then steep downhill until you reach the river and enjoy the cool water. Poles are very helpful on this one.
