Just a little past Rueter campground on the left is the parking lot and trail head. Well marked trail, many other trails in the area. By my own mistake, I did make one wrong turn onto a connecting trail. Ended up just turning around and going back the way I came. Not a loop trail. Lots of trails and dirt roads, so even though the actual trails are marked well I still got confused. Beautiful area though...didn’t run into anyone. Late September. Saw a few deer and a few cows.

After hiking Mt Rushmore and Devils Tower, both of which don't allow pets, this is a great hike for those with pets. My lab/shepherd mix enjoyed the exercise. Views are OK, you are in a forest, but there are enough breaks in the trees to see the valleys below. Did not run into anyone else on the trail which made it very peaceful.

Very easy and quiet hike. We have never run into anyone while on this trail. Beautiful scenery!
