Nice mellow hike. Great view from the lookout. Took us 1 hour out & back to the lookout. High traffic on Labor Day. The last mile of the road in was rough, small cars may not be the best vehicle choice.

Quick evening hike to phelps overlook, on to Phelps lake loop, and did a quick mile into death canyon. Trail is developed, fairly easy, with beautiful views. On the death canyon trail, watched a moose and her calf. The steep walls of the canyon are pretty amazing. Lots of traffic, young aged to old aged and everything in between.

Great out and back through the woods with a great overlook. Park close to trail head but feel free to not get to end. The walk through parking reveals wildlife.

This was a quick hike, but so worth it. The views from the overlook are amazing.

This hike kicked my butt. Pretty views. Went through Death Canyon, up to Open Canyon but had to turn around about mile 6 because of the snow. Hiked back and up into death canyon about a mile and then back to the car. 13.7 miles total

This was our 3rd hike of the day when we went. It was a good closer and an easy hike up to the lake. Beautiful views.

Nice hike. Not to difficult. Up hill on the way to the view and downhill on the way back to the parking lot. Well marked and easy to follow. View was amazing and worth it. Worst part was the ride in to the trail head. lol. Bumpy ride and a truck or Jeep is almost required.

Very snowy, a lot of trudging. I would rate it moderate during the snowy season! We did walk all the way down to the lake but not around as it was getting too late.

Fall colors were amazing! We hiked a little into the canyon, and in the switchback past the overlook, we saw a small black bear.

Beautiful easy stroll. BRING BEAR SPRAY! We were growled at as we switchbacked down the lake. You can read more about it here: https://practicalvagabonds.com/caution-bears-in-the-area/

The Death Canyon Trailhead is a four wheelers access. Once you get to the trailhead, the hike is easy and the vistas are spectacular . If you can make it in the fall, then it’s even better with the contrasts of color. The highlight is the Phelps Lake overlook.

Tough climb up not scary just steep at times. Trail was well maintained and not overly crowded. BUT worth every drop of sweat. A not to miss experience .

A fun hike with gradual elevation, it wasn't easy for my husband with back problems but wasn't too hard and well worth the views!

Great easy hike up to a wonderful overlook. Very shady and nice easy trail. The road getting to the trailhead off the main drag is quite bumpy. We ended up parking a little ways from the trail head. I would advise continuing on down to the lake. Great place to stick your feet in and enjoy the view.

Went here with my family of 6...2 adults, 4 kids. Was a great hike for a family. The beach at the lake was a perfect swimming, and enjoying lunch spot. The kids were perfectly tired and worn out from a very fun day!

Great family trail to see wildlife during both up and back. Great view of the lake and you can continue down to the lake.
