Phelps Lake Overlook is a 2 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Moose, Wyoming that features a lake. The trail is good for all skill levels and is primarily used for hiking and running.
Grand Teton National Park charges a fee to enter that varies by vehicle or if entering on foot, horse, or bike. For more information, please visit https://www.nps.gov/grte/planyourvisit/fees.htm. During winter months, the road is closed at Moose Wilson road so there is an additional 1.6 miles (each-way) to get to Death Canyon Trailhead. Pay attention to follow trail closely as some skiing tracks easily lead off trail. Snow is well-packed on the trail, but deep and hard to scramble otherwise even with snowshoes.
Nice snowshoe trail in the winter, beautiful view at the overlook! During winter the road is closed at Moose Wilson road so need to add 1.6 miles (each-way) to get to Death Canyon Trailhead. Totally worth it. Pretty easy hike, well worth it. View was fantastic!
Very simple up and back hike. Hardest parts were off road to get to trail head and then not knowing if there is parking!
Steady uphill hike to the overlook. Nice shady trail. Amazing view!!
Clear, easy, and dry. Gorgeous hike with a view well worth it :-)
Nice incline, not too challenging. Overlook point is lovely. Fairly busy for a week day.
Nice easy hike. We did the 4x4 road to about 3/4 up to trailhead then hiked up to trailhead. Then an easy 390 feet incline up over 1 mile to the overlook. The lake was beautiful and glistening. Very enjoyable.
Heavily trafficked, but a minimal effort hike with a good reward of the lake overlook at the end.
My four-year-old son and I ran up the trail and down the trail. We ran up in about 35 minutes taking 5-6 short breaks. We ran down in 25 minutes taking maybe for breaks and practicing sneaking through the woods to find animals.
