Gravel road hike up to Medicine Wheel. Quite frigid but spectacular views, and no humans in sight!

Extremely culturally significant site. The wheel was fascinating to see as were the offerings left behind by previous visitors. The trail itself is actually a gravel road, but it is very high up in the mountains and offers great views of the surrounding area.

More of a road that you walk. But it’s beautiful.

Surprised to find vehicles can share the path to the Medicine Wheel! There were quite a few. I’m glad we made the pilgrimage on foot, with our little dog in her front pack. I could feel the ancestors making their way to gather for ceremony and honoring the 4 directions. Air quality poor due to fires that have brought Smokey skies here- so the views were not as brilliant as they would otherwise be.

3 mile “hike” on a wide gravel road. Uphill both ways at times with no shade. It was a neat area with a lot of history, the views were beautiful at the top.

Be careful on the ice and snow. There is some exposure on the 1st snow bank when you come to it. My recommendation would be to wait until the snow is gone.

Nice easy trail (road). Be careful about timing when you hike. We hiked mid June and had to traverse a couple snow banks along the route. The Medicine Wheel was worth the quick hike.

If you have an interest in Native American Culture, appreciate the stark and unforgiving beauty of high plains, or have a fascination with culturally significant locations, this is a great and easy hike. If none of these descriptions apply to you, you may want to try another trail.

The trail is a 1.5 mile road walk. As hikes go it isn't too satisfying but there are some nice views. The prize is at the top with the Medicine Wheel. Very cool if you like Native American things. Lots of offerings left behind by recent pilgrims. They don't offer much in the way of education.

The Medicine Wheel site itself is peaceful, powerful, and intriguing all at the same time. The hike out there and back is a dull haul up a dirt road.

The views from the trail are pretty. It is interesting to see and worth a stop once, but the wheel itself is not that impressive.

If you are very interested in Native American history this is a trail for you. The history behind the wheel is very fascinating. When I visited by myself I had to walk from the gate up the hill to the wheel. When I had my grandparents along we were allowed to drive to the top because they couldn’t walk that far. Its not one of my favorite trails, but it’s something to see.
