Really nice trail with gradual climb and great scenic views. Follow Forest Service trail 63 which is how the trail is marked. I found Alltrails, GPS and USGS map to be mostly accurate.

According to my watch, this trail, from the parking lot at West Tensleep Lake to the edge of Lake Helen was 6.89 miles, not 8.7 as All Trails says it is. Most people we passed on the trail expected it to be around 5 miles. Not sure why there’s such a discrepancy. The trail is well used and maintained, and the scenery is beautiful! Mosquitos were in full force at the lake, and they mean business. They found any spot that may not have been sprayed and they bite through clothes. Well worth the effort. I will most certainly do this trail again.

Don't let the skeeters deter you from enjoying this lake and views! If so, maybe do August thru October.

Backpacked to this lake and camped before heading to do Cloud Peak the next day. Beautiful lake with lots of trees. We saw several moose both days we were there!
