HikingGreat!No shade

A very easy family day-hike. 3 flat miles on mostly hard packed trail, very wide and easy through open wooded area due to the wildfires of the past. It was warm and sunny most of the hike. The trail is super well maintained and I hope anyone who has contributed to cutting and moving all of the fallen trees on this path know how we appreciate their efforts! The lake at the end is not the most scenic in Yellowstone, but it is still a very beautiful place in the world. We went for the fishing which was pretty good. We had to wade out about knee/waist deep so that we can cast deep enough to find the fish and also moved to the far side of the lake were there is a steeper drop off. We caught mostly 14" Cutthroat Trout but all 3 of us also caught an Arctic Grayling which is a somewhat difficult species to locate in the USA. We saw Trumpeter Swans, (2 different pair), and a Bald Eagle who came to visit. Great day for a nice hike and a great trail that we may repeat some day.

Over all great trail. Nice and flat with very minimal large rocks on on path. Great path for semi handicapped or asthmatic people. The mosquitoes are FIERCE and the size of dimes, so come prepared. The mosquitoes weren’t bad in the parking lot, but they were bad the first 1/2 to 1/4 miles of the trail. If you stay in the sun you have a better shot of not getting bit. We caught a lot of cut throats in the lake. Great experience!

Super flat, easy trail. Nice way to get some mileage in on a lazy day. When we got to the trailhead we saw a family that had just finished trail running and they said they made a new personal best, clocking in at just over an hour. That was probably the most interesting part of the trail. There’s not many scenic views other than the end once you reach the lake. It was way too muddy at the end so we didn’t do the final .3 miles to the end of the trail. The lake was beautiful and there’s lots of cute wildflowers along the trail! There were seriously swarms of mosquitoes it was insane! I had to reapply bug spray twice. Still, not a bad trail.

Fishing

This hike is relatively flat but it’s a fairly long hike. The fishing wasn’t the best either. Scenery is nice though.
