Getting There

Dry Medicine Lodge Creek is an engaging trail/two-track filled with wildflowers, creek-crossings, colorful sandstone that approaches the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains. While a four-wheeler/ATV is likely the best option to see the most wilderness, the ride/hike option is definitely a viable option to see and appreciate the country.

The Medicine Lodge Archaeological site offers several pit toilets on your way through the campsites to the trailhead. Be sure to check out the numerous Petroglyphs, the picnic site with playground/horseshoes, etc., the numerous info. centers, and the superb arch/bridge.

Call the following number for updated information: 307-469-2234 and check the website at https://wyoparks.wyo.gov/index.php/contact-medicine-lodge.

There are four creek crossings in early summer (May-June) which are about knee height

The Manderson-Hyattville (from West) or Tensleep-Hyattville (from South) approaches are both fairly straightforward via Highway 31 that runs between Tensleep and Manderson. The signage that leads to the Medicine Lodge Archaeological site is fairly obvious with regular postings of mileage and directions.

A very interesting hike/ride up Medicine Lodge Creek Canyon (dry) via the two-track road. The surrounding canyon walls are colorful and dynamic. Once you begin to leave the creek, be ready for a fairly steep climb up the road/trail, but the views are quite rewarding of the scenic areas to the west.
