We hiked this trail to the first backcountry campsite (2C1), about five and a half miles in or so. The trail is mostly flat and exposed and easy to follow. It's also lined by wildflowers and offers great views of the plateau. The only downside was the insane amount of mosquitos and flies -- bring bug spray, seriously. Otherwise, this is a great overnight (or even day) hike in Yellowstone.
