Attempted this trail on 5/23/2020 and made it about 75% of the way up but the snow was too deep to safely go further. It was about a foot deep at the trailhead but 6+ feet deep on both sides of the creek less than a mile up the trail. Not sure if that amount of snow is normal this time of year. Nevertheless, it was a stunningly beautiful winter wonderland scene.

Hiked this from the trailhead, over the Coal Creek/Mesquite Creek Divide (the terminus of the Coal Creek Trail), then continued on to Moose Meadows and turned around at Moose Creek. Round trip distance of about 10 miles. Definitely an elevation gaining trail. I calculated about 1900 vertical feet gained if you just go from the trailhead to the top of the Divide. The red trail track on AllTrails stops about 4/10ths of a miles short of the Divide. So it’s a workout! My extended trip ended up being just a bit over a cumulative 3200’ hiked up followed by the corresponding hike down. (Since I started and ended at the same place.). Had great weather. The streams were low so no wet foot crossings. Even the boggy area in the Coal Creek meadow was dry so again no wet or muddy feet there. (June and July will likely see higher streams and the bog wetter so be prepared.). Don’t think I’d call this a particularly kid friendly trail due to the elevation gain and some narrow trail parts with drop offs. (Maybe older kids, but I’d hesitate to take younger kids.). Still lots of wildflowers.

Great hike that offers a gradual, steady climb that got our heart rates up but wasn’t too challenging. We took the trailhead to the right of the parking lot. It featured a stream the whole way up that was beautiful. We had our two small dogs with us who did great on it as well.

This was a nice trail. We started out following the trail on the right side of the parking lot (there’s also a trail head to the left where you can cross the river over a bridge). The trail leads to the river almost immediately and wasn’t cross able at that point so we doubled back and crossed at a different point easily. From there on out the trail was pretty easy (except for the uphills). This trail is challenging but not super hard. It did get pretty muddy due to all the rain. Near the top there was also a lot of snow so we ended up turning around. But all in all it was a good hike! It was very pretty climbing up the mountain and the views at the top were beautiful.

Enjoyed the hike - beautiful wildflowers! We hiked to the meadows... be prepared for a steady climb up and carry bug spray.

Flowing mountain stream with ice and snow up until the early summer. Nice pullover hike from the highway out of Jackson Hole.

Beautiful hike. There is a creek crossing, so be prepared for that. Wildflowers and the occasional patch of snow made the hike even more interesting.

Spectacular flowers, no bugs on our trip. Hardly any others on trail. Best wildflowers we saw during our week of hiking.

Hiked to the Coal Creek Meadows today with the family. All of my kids made it up and down without too many problems. The trail is fairly steep. It climbs 1700ft. in 2.5 miles. The only other problem we had was the bugs. If you do this hike, make sure you have bug spray. I really wish we had been able to get to the top of the pass, but today was not the day.
