Nice trails. Easy to fallow. Some steep grades.
Our major objective was to summit Cloud Peak and make it a 5 day 4 night backpacking trip. We started at the Battle Park Trail Head. To access the trail head you take hwy 16 to road 24. Its a dirt road and can be rough. It took us almost an hour to make it to the trail head from hwy 16. We were pulling our equipment trailer which slowed us down. Our first night we camped at Grace Lake. There is a very nice camping area to the west side of the lake with a fire ring. Lake solitude is awesome! Good camping areas on the east side of the lake. You begin a good climb from Lake Solitude and continue to climb to the base of Cloud Peak. We camped up on a small crest next to paint creek close to the small falls. We summitted Cloud peak on day 3 and had perfect weather. It was windy and cold at the top. Basically its a boulder hopping scramble to the top. The next day we began our trip back via Mistymoon lake and trail 066 to Lilly Lake were we made camp for our final night. The weather began to turn that afternoon and it rained through out the night. The trail can be a bit hard to follow due to horse back riders use these trails also and so you will see several off shoots. Remember to have a compass and map. The fishing was good! We saw a Moose and the mosquitos were minimal.
