Hard hike, after the first 2-2.5 miles of easy to moderate difficulty you will cross a tiny stream then you will be walking/climbing rocks the majority of the way until the summit. We have been hiking all summer and thought we would fly through it but we didnt realize how much rock scrambling would be involved. For a more or less experienced hiker who doesnt rock climb/scramble too much, it took alot of concentration and especially time. When summiting after timberline lake, we took several wrong turns and simply had to traverse/hike back to a safe spot and try another route. Be very careful about falling loose rocks on the summit it is super sketchy bring a helmet, be aware of anyone above or below you on the final push to summit. Snow was around but not in the way in late august. 6 hours to summit, 10 hours roundtrip. Views at the top are amazing

This is an awesome hike for experienced hikers who are in good shape. The first 2 hours are pretty easy and then there is an intense scree field before reaching Timberline Lake. Took us 1.5 hours from the lake to the summit and there were some sketchy sections close to the summit where you have to go next to the snow field on relatively loose rocks. The way down was extremely challenging and you need to be careful of loose rock fall especially when others are around. Overall a rewarding hike with incredible views of the Grand.

Turned back 600 vert ft from the summit because snow was blocking our East Face (least difficult) route. Still a gorgeous hike. Even going up to the cirque (at approx 10,400 ft) is a great hike if the somewhat-exposed and very steep summit hike is not your cup of tea.
