It's nice that the Arboretum allows hiking on all their trails in the winter. Some segments were well packed, some very fluffy. Following the trail was a little tricky, despite regularly placed maps showing where you were. We wound up a bit off trail for the last mile.

Some portions of my route were close to highway sounds, so I’ll avoid those next time. Very wooded, shady and quiet, easy to park.

Beautiful, especially for an urban trail. Mostly single track, some double. Mix of shade and sun.

First time to Arboretum, very nice hiking!! Saw 5 turkeys, 2 turtles one in water and one on road, and one deer swam across the lake. Yes, deer can swim! Also beautiful white lotus flowers. Highly recommend!!

Hiking

A lot of trails to choose from, with many different vibes. Walked through the true arboretum area - felt more like meandering without a real path. Made it to the wetlands area which was a bit muddy, and real buggy already. Also the prairie section. Saw turkey, deer, yellow warblers, and american gold finches. Lilacs are blooming beautifully, some azaleas too. Follow my instagram for more adventures @julie_journeys

Walking

This is a fairly extensive walking trail through the University's large arboretum. It's mostly woods but also has several grass plains sections. Unique flora that's almost all native.

Varying sizes of paths and great variety of trees. GPS struggle. I am far from directionally challenged but the "dead end" signs were the only clear markings and didn't alone with the read perimeter noted here. I did a large loop south of the Beltline underpass as well. Perhaps easier to just go out for 90 mins rather than attempt to follow the course.

Beautiful easy hike. Remember bug spray, the mosquitoes will get you. The Prairie is amazing and full of life. Take a camera. Due to recent heavy rain some of the trail is washed out, watch your step.

Lovely in late summer. mosquitoes can be fierce. Make sure you take the map with you. But definitely well worth it!

We just finished the Wingra Woods portion of the trail with the kids. Pretty easy walking, great scenery, and we even saw some turkeys. I could see the mosquitoes being bad in the summer, but it’s perfect in the fall.
