We may be one of two couples on Rock Island after the rain Tuesday am. Beautiful campsites throughout. Easy trail to the backpack sites, but really wonderful facilities. Raccoons, no bears, but no boxes either. Major hiking tomorrow.

This is a nice, easy trail mostly through the woods. The trail is well maintained. The lighthouse is neat, the lighthouse tour is worth doing. The views, other than from the lighthouse, are nothing special, the cliff views are mostly obscured by trees. Did this hike on July 1 and only saw a few other people. Saw a couple of snakes (none of which are poisonous). There are a couple of nice sandy beaches. You definitely want bug spray if you’re doing this hike in the summer.

This was a great hike. mostly on a wide ATV access route so walking was easy Suggest you go counter clockwise as the Lighthouse stop will be near the end of the trail. The trail continues along the shore so you can do a loop.

Fantastic hike in Lake Michigan. Very friendly and the lighthouse tour was well worth the hike to the other side of the island. This is certainly a gem at the tip of Wisconsin. Put on your hiking shoes, grab a swim suit, and enjoy. Not one mosquito. Many biting flies near the hospitality area, but not at my site. What a nice way to get away. No cell service. So nice!!!! Bring your teenagers and drive them nuts. They may actually break down and talk to you without a text. ;-) Take the time to go into the hospitality center and look at the boat house underneath. Amazing architecture and the history the island is amazing! I followed the paths all the way around the island. I also check out every site that isn’t occupied just to make notes on where I would stay on future trips. All the “lettered” sites are very secluded and quiet. Numbered sites are pretty close together, but if you want to meet fellow hikers and camp near the beach, they are best for you.

We followed the 5.5 mile Thordarson loop trail that circled the shoreline around the whole island. Clear and easy to follow trail of moderate difficulty. Just a few ups & downs where we had to be careful with the footings. Be sure to check out the sandy shallow beach and shoreline on the Southeastern side of the island. BTW, the trail we were on was a loop, not an out and back as described.

Spectacular hike!!! Great views as you roll through semi dense forest and open lake views and even sandy beachfronts. People at the lighthouse were beyond friendly. Took our dog and it was no problem on ferries or on the island.

This little Island at the tip of the Door Peninsula is a splendid way to spend a weekend hiking and camping. The trail is moderate. Scenery varies from hardwoods to sandy beach and of course rocky bluffs. Best camp sites are sites B and C. I believe site c was voted the most beautiful camp sites in Wisconsin. Views of the lake and rocky beach. Bring water shoes.
