Great trail! Beautiful scenery and almost completely shaded. A surprising but grateful lack of bugs.

We hiked this our 9 and 12 year olds. big elevation change but a nice long stretch along the river which was beautiful. Flooded forest. Trail was marked closed on 6/14 due to high water but another couple had gone thru and said it was fine (just a little muddy by the river but easy to walk thru...no slipping). Some narrow parts with brush so check yourself closely for ticks. I found one on me after (we think deer tick). Great trail, will do again! Was not busy, only ran into a few groups.

Very nice secluded trail. One of the better trails if you don’t want a crowd but still very well maintained. Very cool views. Elevation changes a little bit which can be challenging at the end.

Despite the bugs which are always a problem in the spring on all trails, I really enjoyed this trail. The river view and well kept trail made this an interesting hike. The elevation is a challenge, in my view not insurmountable.

One of the better hikes in park. Mesquitos were horrible, but notwithstanding, a great scenic hike for the area.

First to Review

This trail can only be accessed by starting on the Sentinel Ridge Trail or the Old Wagon Road Trail. This trail is seldom used and offers a reprieve from the more crowded areas of the park. The lower elevation portion along the Wisconsin River can get buggy during the spring and summer months. Unless you want a good uphill workout, I recommend hiking the trail from west-to-east, beginning by going down the switchbacks off of the Sentinel Ridge Trail. The incline coming up on the eastern end of the trail (where it connects to the Old Wagon Road Trail) is much more gradual.
