Halfway Prairie County Wildlife Area Loop Trail is a 1.8 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Cross Plains, Wisconsin that offers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and bird watching. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
A Dane County dog permit is required for dogs.
The trail no longer follows the map on All Trails. Some pretty spots but lots and lots of bugs.
Nice trail but I would agree that it is a little boring since it's mostly just walking along a field, there was one steep hill though the woods that we were unsure if it was part of the trail until we got to the other side of it but you can tell they are working to clear that trail to make it more adventurous. You could definitely catch a nice tan on a sunny day
This trail is an easy walking path between soy bean fields. It’s a nice walk but we found it kind of boring, especially considering the trails across the street at Indian Lake. There is also no shade, whole trail is mowed grass in the field. This is definitely more of a walk than a hike and if that’s what you’re looking for then it’s great. The ruins of the old house are beautiful, especially at sun set.
Situated across the road from Indian Lake County Park, Halfway Prairie is hard to miss: you will see the ruin of an old stone house from the road. Most of the trail is along cropped fields, but the northern boundary goes up some small hills. The trail is still being cleared out, follow the pink ribbons. Minor bushwhacking may be necessary. Beautiful shooting stars, wild geranium and other wild flowers along the way. Also look out for elf cup and several other kinds of fungi.
