Awesome path not to many bikers. I think I ran into 2 until 10am then 5 or 10 more. Very polite and also coming from the front. My favorite so far. Now I need a bike so after I walk I can do it the other way!!!

Gorgeous, well maintained and clean. There was a lot of bike traffic but they were all super respectful. Great day!

Took the day off work so the trail was really quiet. By noon I’d encountered a few people on mountain bikes but it wasn’t bad at all. The trail was easy to follow and not over grown. It’s almost entirely in the trees so the only real spectacular view is at the C3 marker overlooking the valley. Lots of elevation change and a narrow tree lined trail makes this a beautiful day hike.

Early morning hike on a very hot day. Breeze above the trees but not on the trail. Love the hills and curves.

This is a Mountain Biking designated trail, one of only a few in the southern Wisconsin state park system. As one of the most heavily trafficked mountain bike trails in all of Wisconsin, numerous bikes and high speeds should be expected for any hikers. The same parking lot has access to a “hiking only” Ice Age Trail section if you intend to hike. The Emma Carlin trail is narrow, rocky and rough. You should expect the primary use to be mountain bikes and to have to yield often to them.

This is mainly a mountain bike trail system. There are hiking trails across the street and The ice age trail also departs out of the parking lot. Do not be confused. All dogs must be leashed for their safety.

Hiking

We hiked the Green Loop on a Saturday morning, in early April. At about 11AM the parking lot was mostly empty, but when we finished before 2PM it was completely full. Most visitors were biking the trails. The worst part of the trail was the constant noise of gunfire from hunters nearby. Gunfire could be heard throughout the entire loop, sometimes very close by. Not very enjoyable. Very few parts of the trail had any greenery, since most of the forest was deciduous. There were a couple nice spots but mostly everything was brown. This was the biggest disappointment of the whole trail. The trail had almost no litter, which was great to see! I only picked up maybe 6 pieces of litter in total. Very very clean trail. The scenic viewpoint was not impressive, and we didn't spend more than a minute or two before heading back to the trail. You could see a few fields, a silo, and I don't remember what else. Forgettable views. One last note, I wouldn't bring a small child to these trails. There are many bikers who use the trail (it's very good terrain for biking) but they are going so fast that a kid could easily get hit. We had to keep our ears open at all times and be ready to stand aside for cyclists. Overall, the trail was pretty boring. We will probably hike it again in the summer or fall, but definitely not in the early spring.

Really cool walk. Single track for bikers but you gotta work a little to get through the 6 mi trail. Took a bit over 2 hours, but was worth it

Very well marked, clear, and super easy to follow. We got there around 10 and there were only a few cars in the parking lot and only ran into a few hikers and bikers along the route. The mosquitoes are intense in the beginning and end, there’s a large stagnant body of water that I assumes breeds super mosquitoes. They were relentless, wish we would’ve had bug spray, ran into one guy with a mesh net over his face, we were very jealous. We brought our dog an he loved it. Scenery is a lot of the same but definitely worth the trip up from Chicago. Can’t wait to explore more trails in Kettle Moraine!

Awesome hike, with moderate elevation changes. You can do the full loop which is around 7 miles or take other trails to shorten it. I can’t wait to see this trail in the fall.

My recording showed this green line path is 7.7 miles instead of 6.4 Miles as listed. It is a single lane unpaved sharing with the incoming bikers so be extremely careful. It really helped with safety when the trail has clearly defined the different directions for hikers and bikers.
