I'll preface by saying I generally like trails that take you past interesting features, water, or scenic vistas. Bald Bluff Trails had great reviews on All Trails, but overall I rated it at a 3 as I found it to have a low variety of terrain and scenic views. The parking lot is small - only holds about six cars; maybe eight if parked tightly. As you head up the trail, you will immediately see a trailblazed trail that shoots off to the left - don't follow that. The beginning of the trail will get your heart racing right off the bat, and the bluff, unfortunately, is right at the beginning of the trail - looking out over the County Highway and farmland. I assumed I would be hiking "to" the bluff, so was a little disappointed in this. The pros: this trail has some good elevation and would be great for trail runners. It is generally a saunter through a narrow, hard packed dirt trail, with good ups and downs throughout the trail. You do reach a section that is quite sandy with some beautiful tall pines that smell lovely. Right around here the horse trails run almost parallel and it confused me a bit both on the trail map and watching people walk on that section as I thought I was off trail. As this is an out and back, I also wasn't sure exactly what I was hiking out "TO", so I stopped after reaching the almost comically signed Elephant Rock point of interest. That made this out and back just under 4 miles, though you could go further along the IAT. There are some wildflowers blooming right now, and will probably be full bloom within a week or so. If you like wandering through heavily wooded areas, with some good elevation gains for leg burn, then this would be a good trail for you. Enjoy! Other point of interest are the cute town of Palmyra just a few miles down the road, or stop in Rushing Waters Trout House just down the road to buy their amazing trout dip for a snack.
