rucked it with 25 lb packs and we had a pretty easy time, good trail although very muddy after a heavy rain

Young’s Nature Trail was disappointing. No view at the top, although some of the views along the way weren’t bad. Overall, just a walk up a hill

***Please note, I did Kate’s Mountain Loop, not Rocky Ridge Trail. However, you can easily connect to Rocky Ridge Trail by hanging a left at the top of the mountain at Kate’s Mountain Road (shown in photos), or vice versa. For either trail, the first 1.5 miles up the mountain are somewhat strenuous, and then it’s smooth sailing from there. If you do Kate’s Mountain Loop Trail, you’ll be on gravel and paved road most of the way back after the first climb. There are some pleasant views of the meadows and surrounding hills on this trail, as well as a disc golf course and picnic area as you re-enter the park. Overall, I would recommend connecting Rocky Ridge and Kate’s Mountain Loop for the best hiking experience.

Brutal ascent with 1800+ feet of elevation gain. We then made it a loop connecting with Young’s Nature Trail. Difficult route, have water, take your time, and rest as needed.

Nice trail, well marker path. Only one overlook view near the top.

Definitely was not expecting it to be as steep as it was, be sure to have plenty of water onhand! The overlook was pretty grown over (late July) but the trail itself was well demarcated.

Trailhead is on left before the picnic area. Park on the right next to a faded orange gait. This is a hike in the woods pretty much straight up the mountain. one nice vista near the top. The trail meets a gravel road at the top, no view. Good hike for the bliss of the walk, spring wildflowers and one nice view spot.

First to Review

This trail is in the Greenbrier State Forest and can be used as part of Kate's Mountain Loop. You travel essentially straight up the side of Kate's Mountain but neither myself nor my dog had too much trouble.
