Fun moderately hard hike! We went a little bit off the beaten path, but got back on The white blaze eventually. There were two moderately steep hills. Pretty rocky, and no really scenic views from the mountain (unless we missed it), but overall a great little escape into nature!

Great trail with lots of shade and nice overlooks along the route. Good mix of up and down.

Well, we didn't end up on the designated loop. Our natural tendency is to be drawn south. It's in our blood, I guess. We did the loop south of this one. Very rocky terrain and the views weren't quite as spectacular as the Little Mt. Loop, but it was a short enjoyable hike. Next week, the actual loop we had intended.

Park at the end of Tobbagan Hill. There is a gravel lot. Walk into the woods and take the trail (white blaze) headed up the mountain. I suggest doing the loop clockwise by continuing straight onto Gum Spring Trail (blue blaze). (To do counterclockwise, turn right onto White Knobs Trail.) Gum Spring is very muddy and there is a large tree downed that must be climbed over or ducked under currently. Very rocky and steep going downhill. Turn right onto Tuscarora Trail (stay with blue blaze). And continue to follow blues until first intersection with option to do a smaller loop back by turning right onto White’s Knob or straight onto TT. There is also an option to go left where I believe there is an old coal mine but the trail is not marked. The trail onto TT is also slightly hidden at first — just stick to the map. This bit is a lot of uphill, some muddy and other parts fine. Continue until your next major intersection where you take a sharp right onto White’s Knob to start heading back. This portion is mostly flat with a little uphill. A good ending to a long hike.
