Pase Point Trail is a 4.2 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Davis, West Virginia that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
The Pase Point Trail starts at the Harold S. Walters Nature Center. The trail heads southwest from the Nature Center, passing Pendleton Lake. After rounding the south end of the lake, the trail crosses Pendleton Creek, which feeds the Blackwater river, via a footbridge and then heads southwest into forest with heavy tree cover and undergrowth, including thick stands of rhododendron. The trail then skirts the edge of Blackwater River Gorge for over a mile. The gorge is not visible along this stretch because of the dense forest. After about 0.6 miles, the Pase Point Trail splits from the Dobbin House Trail, which had followed the same route to this point. At the split, the Pase Point Trail heads northwest and has red blazes. After about another 0.6 miles, the trail descends to Pase Point Overlook, which is a rock outcrop with very nice views of the gorge. The return to the Nature Center is by the same route.
Parking and restrooms are available at the Harold S. Walters Nature Center, which is near the trailhead. The nearest food concession is at the park Trading Post, which is about 1.25 miles from the trailhead.

We added the Dobbins Trail to make it loop back to the trailhead and was so happy we did - the terrain and geology of the trail was so different at every turn. Open fields, tunnels of rhododendrons , great overlooks , good rolling up and down, tall pine groves and stream crossings. We hiked mid April and it was COLD! The views were spectacular because the trees had barely started to do their spring thing. Really enjoyed this hike!
The snowy trail was beautiful, there was no one else on the trail! A little muddy though
The snow covered pines, rhododendron, and view were beautiful. The snow was deep, the trail very overgrown in some patches, and there were surprise mud pits but ... it’s the middle of winter. Absolutely worth the trek.
Beautiful walk in cooler weather. Overgrown in some areas, would be too much for me in warmer weather. (snake fear)
We wanted one final hike before driving home. We decided to hike 40 minutes in and then 40 out. Made it to Pase Point, but only say fog/mist this morning. Will definitely go back. This is a great trail since it connects to so many other trails. Will definitely do it again in anticipation of the views without the fog.
We started on Pase Trail but there were so many people we started looping around. Glad we did because after that we never saw anyone except two mountain bikers.
Trail is flat and narrow at times with lots of roots and rocks but I was able to handle it easily with a 1 year old in a pack and a 4 and 7 year old along. The view at the point is amazing. My boys loved climbing on the rocks and despite it being one of the busiest days I have ever seen at Blackwater, we only passed a few other hikers and one group of mountain bikers. The trail has several spots where the map is displayed and the signage is clear also. I’m so glad we did this hike today, can’t wait to visit this spot again.
