This hiking trail was great for days that are not humid and hot when I went it was unbearable long and hard the whole way there was up hill and difficult when you finally get to the top of the mountain the view is amazing I don’t think it was worth the hike all the way up there and on the way back down the mountain it. Was extremely difficult and dangerous because you can easily slide down and get badly hurt i would not suggest this for older people I mean from age 55 and up and most important bring at least 15 bottles of water so you don’t faint and by the way I am 11 years old

This is a beautiful hike but it’s much more difficult than I expected. Be prepared and bring at least two liters of water per person. If you go in the summer like I did then you are going to sweat, a lot. Wear study hiking boots with ankle support, the rocky terrain can be tricky. Once you get to the overlook be prepared for one of the most majestic views you can see in this area. I happily spent 3 hours taking in the view and taking pictures whenever I noticed a change in the light. The trek back down reminds you of the pains you felt getting there as it starts with another difficult hike back to the main trail head, but once you get there it’s all down hill from there and is quite enjoyable as long as you’re paying attention to the rocks.

Not sure why this hike is rated as moderate — it is HARD. great day trip from Washington DC. But be prepared, we came across a number of hikers who turned back.

Make sure you bring plenty of water for the dogs. My boyfriends black lab and my golden retriever definitely got a work out. Wouldn’t take them again.

The hike itself is a curling up hill and the opposite in return. Much of the path is actually gravel which is unpleasant and used for vehicle traffic due to the width of the trail. That said, the vista from the top is worth it, especially in the fall overlooking Harpers Ferry WV and the meeting of waters.

This hike is 5 stara when only a few people are there. It's 1 star when there are a lot. The amount of people "hiking" this trail yesterday was insane. Just to give you an idea, I passed 62 people just from the parking lot to the fork to the upper trail.

Great hike, can be challenging for a beginner but we still loved it and the views were absolutely incredible at the top. Kind of rocky in places so watch your step.

WAY too many people walk this trail now. Even in the winter.
